The Islamic Republic of Iran News Network (IRINN) is an Iranian news channel, part of Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting corporation, headquartered in the Jame Jam Park in Tehran, Iran. The main programs are political, but sports, science and medical news programs also exist. Its language is mainly in Persian but there are special programs in English and Arabic. [1]

June 22, 2021

On June 22, 2021, the US department of justice seized 33 Iranian websites, which they claimed were "spreading disinformation". [2] [3] A statement by IRINN said, the move appeared to be part of a larger-scale crackdown by the U.S. on news websites linked to the “Axis of Resistance”. [4] [5] [6]

October 10, 2022

During the 2022 Iran Protests, a Hacktivist group called "Edalaat-e-Ali" hacked the News Network, targeting Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and showing 4 women who were victims of allegedly not covering their hair, especially Mahsa Amini, who were featured in the hacked footage scene during the news bulletin. [7]

The agency also publishes the newspaper Iran. As of September 2021, the Managing Director of IRNA is Ali Naderi. IRNA has 60 offices in Iran and 30 more in various countries around the world.

The mass media in Iran is both privately and publicly owned but all channels are subject to censorship. In 2016, Iran had 178 newspapers, 83 magazines, 15,000 information sites and two million blogs. A special court has authority to monitor the print media and may suspend publication, or revoke the licenses, of papers or journals that a jury finds guilty of publishing anti-religious or slanderous material or information detrimental to the national interest. The Iranian media is prohibited from criticizing Islamic doctrine.

Iran International is a Persian-language news television channel headquartered in London aimed at Iranian viewers, and broadcasting free-to-air by satellite. Iran International was established in May 2017 and has broadcast its programmes from both London and Washington, D.C. In February 2023, Iran International moved its headquarters temporarily to Washington, D.C. due to increased threats from the Iranian government against Iran International's UK-based journalists, but back to London in September 2023. It is available online, via radio and via satellite broadcasting worldwide including Iran. Iran International is owned by Volant Media UK Ltd. and has been charged of being an arm of Saudi Arabia.
