Sonia Evans, known mononymously as Sonia, is an English pop singer from Liverpool. She had a 1989 UK number one hit "You'll Never Stop Me Loving You" and became the first female UK artist to achieve five top 20 hit singles from one album. She represented the United Kingdom in the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest, where she finished second with the song "Better the Devil You Know". Between 1989 and 1993, she had 11 UK Top 30 hits, including "Listen to Your Heart" (1989), "Counting Every Minute" (1990) and "Only Fools " (1991). In 1994, she starred as Sandy in a West End revival of the musical Grease, while on television she appeared as Bunty in the 1998 BBC comedy series The Lily Savage Show.

Throughout the song, Ciara gives a description of how the song's beat feels as she exhorts party-goers to dance to the music. "1, 2 Step" was ranked 59th on Billboard's Top 100 Songs of the 2000s. In the United States, the song peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed there for seven weeks.

The track is an uptempo dance music song written by Vince Clarke and Andy Bell. Mute Records issued the single in the UK. For the song's release in the United States, Maverick Records requested a remix for radio. The U.S. single version of "Don't Say Your Love Is Killing Me" is quite different from what is on the Cowboy album. The song's intro was changed, as well as the middle eight section. Most notably, an entire verse, edited out of the album version, is restored on the American single release. On the UK singles chart, "Don't Say Your Love Is Killing Me" peaked at #23, ending a chart run of 24 consecutive Top 20 singles. It reached #89 on the German singles chart and did not enter the Billboard Hot 100. Club remixes proved to be more successful, as the track hit number five on the U.S. Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. On the Swedish Top 60 it peaked at number 26.

It became one of the most well known house anthems in the United Kingdom, and Robin's biggest hit to date. It helped to make house more mainstream and the song is often confused with her following single "Luv 4 Luv", which is compositionally similar and was released around the same time. Further confusion arose with the 1997 hit "Show Me Love" by Swedish singer Robyn, due to the same song title and a similar artist name.

Its Sales chart position of No.6 is the highest entry of any previous Bucks Fizz/The Fizz albums.
