The Italian Community of Romania (Romanian : Comunitatea Italiana din Romania, CIR) was an ethnic minority political party in Romania representing the Italian community.
The CIR contested the 1992 general elections, and despite receiving only 4,188 votes (0.04%), [1] it won a single seat in the Chamber of Deputies under the electoral law that allows for political parties representing ethnic minority groups to be exempt from the electoral threshold. It retained its seat in the 1996 and 2000 elections, but was beaten by the Association of Italians of Romania in the 2004 elections, losing its seat.

The Romanian Constitution, under the conditions imposed by the Electoral Law, provides seats in the Chamber of Deputies for the party and cultural association of ethnic minorities in Romania. Minority parties and associations are exempt from the electoral threshold, and are guaranteed a seat so long as they earn at least 10% of the vote that was required for the last party eligible to earn a seat through the threshold.
The Party of the Roma, known until 2008 as Social Democratic Party of the Roma, is a political party in Romania representing the Romani minority. Its leader is Nicolae Păun, and it currently has one reserved seat in the Chamber of Deputies.
Legislative elections were held in Romania on 9 December 2012. The Social Liberal Union (USL) of Prime Minister Victor Ponta won an absolute majority in both the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. Despite the severe weather in parts of the country, the turnout was at 42%, slightly higher than the last legislative elections held in 2008 which saw a turnout of 39%.
