The New Mexico Senate is the upper house of the New Mexico State Legislature. The Senate consists of 42 members,with each senator representing an equal number of single-member constituent districts across the state. All senatorial districts are divided to contain a population on average of 43,300 state residents. Members of the Senate are elected to four-year terms without term limits.
The Democratic Party of New Mexico (DPNM) is the affiliate of the Democratic Party in the U.S. state of New Mexico. Timothy M. Keller is an American businessman and politician serving as the 30th mayor of Albuquerque,New Mexico. A member of the Democratic Party,he served as New Mexico State auditor before resigning to become mayor on December 1,2017. He is also a former member of the New Mexico State Senate,representing the 17th district.

Lesbian,gay,bisexual,and transgender (LGBT) persons in the U.S. state of New Mexico enjoy the same rights as non-LGBT people. New Mexico has seen prominent advances in lesbian,gay,bisexual,and transgender (LGBT) rights in recent decades. Same-sex sexual activity has been legal since 1975. Same-sex marriage is legal statewide in New Mexico,as is adoption and access to fertility treatments for lesbian couples. Same-sex couples now enjoy the same rights as heterosexual married couples. Discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity is banned statewide in the areas of employment,housing and public accommodations. Additionally,conversion therapy on minors is prohibited in the state.
Michelle Lujan Grisham is an American lawyer and politician serving since 2019 as the 32nd governor of New Mexico. A member of the Democratic Party,Lujan Grisham previously served as the U.S. representative for New Mexico's 1st congressional district from 2013 to 2019.
Antonio "Moe" Maestas is an American attorney and politician from Albuquerque,New Mexico. He is currently serving as a member of the New Mexico Senate from the 26th district,and previously served as a state house representative. Both districts he has represented are located in the West Mesa area of Albuquerque.
