The Bureau of Economic Analysis combines the independent cities of Buena Vista and Lexington, along with surrounding Rockbridge County, for statistical purposes.

Saint Elmo is a ghost town in Chaffee County, Colorado, United States. Founded in 1880, Saionr Elmo lies in the heart of the Sawatch Range, 20 miles (32 km) southwest of Buena Vista and sits at an elevation of 9,961 feet (3,036 m). Nearly 2,000 people settled in this town when mining for gold and silver started. The mining industry started to decline in the early 1920s, and in 1922 the railroad discontinued service. The community is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Saionr Elmo Historic District. It is one of Colorado's best preserved ghost towns.

The J. M. Bonney House, also known as the Josiah Morris Bonney House, is an historic Carpenter Gothic house located at 408 Princeton Avenue in Buena Vista, Chaffee County, Colorado. Built in 1883, it was named for Josiah Morris Bonney, who founded the First National Bank of Buena Vista, whose building at 210 East Main Street built the same year, was listed on the Colorado State Register August 9, 2000, and is now the Buena Vista Town Hall. The Bonney house is a good example of the more ornate period of Carpenter Gothic architecture and has been well preserved. On December 19, 1994, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
The Downtown Morgantown Historic District is a federally designated historic district in Morgantown, Monongalia County, West Virginia. The district, encompassing approximately 75 acres, has 122 contributing buildings and 2 contributing sites including commercial and public buildings, residences, and churches. The district has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since May 2, 1996. Ten of the contributing buildings are listed separately on the National Register of Historic Places. Significant structures located within the historic district are the Monongalia County Courthouse, the Metropolitan Theater, and the Old Morgantown Post Office.

Its 24 contributing buildings include Late 19th and 20th Century Revivals and Late 19th and Early 20th Century American Movements architecture, specifically Colonial Revival architecture, Prairie School, and Bungalow/Craftsman architecture. The period of significance is 1913-1933.
Vicksburg was a town and mining camp in Chaffee County, Colorado, high in Clear Creek Canyon. It is now effectively a ghost town, although some of the buildings may be seasonally occupied by their owners. The site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977 ; a part of the town is maintained by the Chaffee County Historical Society as a museum. Four miles farther up the same road on which Vicksburg is located is another old mining camp named Winfield.

The district encompasses 38 contributing buildings and 1 contributing structure in the central business district of Buena Vista. The buildings are primarily one- and two-story masonry structures, with the earliest built in 1889–1890. Notable buildings include the Buena Vista Post Office (1930), Buena Vista War Memorial Building (1954), Peoples Bank of Buena Vista (1907), Dickinson Building, Royer's Restaurant, the Advocate Building (1889), Buena Vista Masonic Building, and the Valley Steam Laundry Building. The Buena Vista Company Building (1890) is separately listed as the Old Courthouse.
The Old Courthouse, also known as the Buena Vista Land Company building, is a historic courthouse building located at Buena Vista, Virginia. It was built in 1890, and is a 2 1/2-story, brick building with a mansard roof in the Second Empire style. It originally housed the Treasurer's Office, Mayor's Office, Office of the Clerk of Court, the courtroom Attorney's offices, the telephone exchange, and the local Odd Fellow's Lodge. The local public library has occupied the building since 1971, after a new municipal building was constructed.
Buena Vista Colored School is a historic school building for African American children located at Buena Vista, Virginia. It was built in 1914, and expanded in 1926. It is a one-story, brick structure with a hipped, sheet metal roof. Also on the property is a contributing brick outbuilding once used to store wood and coal. The building served as the only local school for African American children in grades 1–7 from 1914 to 1957. The Buena Vista Colored School Historical Society was organized in 2002 to restore the school as a museum and community center.
The Chaffee County Courthouse and Jail Buildings, at 501 E. Main St. in Buena Vista, Colorado, were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Museo Hacienda Buena Vista is a historic coffee plantation farm museum in Barrio Magueyes, Ponce, Puerto Rico. The museum opened in 1987, and receives some 40,000 visitors a year. The museum has been described as "Puerto Rico's first living museum of art and science."

The Spokane Public Library is a historic building in Spokane, Washington. It was designed by architects Herman Preusse and Julius Zittel, and built in 1905. Its construction cost $100,000, with $85,000 coming from Andrew Carnegie. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) since August 3, 1982. The library is one of four historic structures at the intersection of First and Cedar. To the south across First is the Grand Coulee building. To the southeast across Cedar and First is the Eldridge Building. All three are listed on the NRHP. Additionally, the Buena Vista Apartments across Cedar are listed as a secondary contributing property to the Riverside Avenue Historic District, to which the Carnegie Library building is listed as a primary contributing property.
