Jane H. Davidson

Jane H. Davidson is an American mechanical engineer whose research involves renewable energy, thermal energy storage, alternative fuel, and solar-powered carbon capture and storage for the energy needs of homes, workplaces, and vehicles. She is a professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Minnesota, where she directs the Solar Energy Laboratory, [1] and is the former Ronald L. and Janet A. Christenson chair of renewable energy at the university. [2]

Education and career

Davidson majored in Engineering Science and Mechanics at the University of Tennessee, where she earned a bachelor's degree in 1975 and a master's degree in 1976. She completed a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering at Duke University in 1984. [1]

She has worked as a researcher at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the Research Triangle Institute, and as a faculty member at the University of Delaware and Colorado State University. She moved to the University of Minnesota in 1993. [2]

Recognition

Davidson was elected as a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) in 1998. [3] She has chaired the ASME Solar Energy Division, and was given the ASME Dedicated Service Award in 2003. In 2012 the ASME gave her their Frank Kreith Energy Award, "for significant research on solar systems for residential buildings and solar thermo chemical cycles to produce fuels". [2]

Davidson is also a Fellow of the American Solar Energy Society (ASES), [4] and was the 2007 winner of the ASES Charles Greeley Abbot Award. [5]

George Oscar Löf was an American engineer and inventor who was best known for his contributions to solar energy research. "Nobody played a more enduring role in the 20th century solar house movement than George Löf."

Masayoshi Tomizuka is a professor in Control Theory in Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of California, Berkeley. He holds the Cheryl and John Neerhout, Jr., Distinguished Professorship Chair. Tomizuka received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Keio University, Tokyo, Japan in 1968 and 1970, and his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in February 1974. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2022.

Cristina Amon

Cristina H. Amon is a mechanical engineer, academic administrator and was the 13th dean of the University of Toronto Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering. She was the Faculty's first female dean. Prior to her appointment at the University of Toronto in 2006, she was the Raymond J. Lane Distinguished Professor and director of the Institute for Complex Engineered Systems at Carnegie Mellon University.

Rajit Gadh

Rajit Gadh is a Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science and the founding director of the UCLA Smart Grid Energy Research Center (SMERC), the UCLA Wireless Internet for Mobile Enterprise Consortium (WINMEC), and the Connected and Autonomous Electric Vehicles Consortium (CAEV).

Nancy Burr Deloye Fitzroy is an American engineer specializing in heat transfer and fluid dynamics. She was one of the first female helicopter pilots.

Dharendra Yogi Goswami is an U.S. inventor, entrepreneur, author, and educator. He has few times advised the US Congress on energy policy and the transition to renewable energy. Goswami is a Distinguished Professor and the director of the Clean Energy Research Center at the University of South Florida. He is the emeritus editor-in-chief of the journal Solar Energy, and has published more than 400 peer-reviewed articles and a number of books and book chapters. Also he is the inventor of the Goswami thermodynamic cycle. His inventions have been commercialized and in 2016 Goswami was inducted into Florida Inventors Hall of Fame. He co-founded Molekule, which markets an air purifier.

Paul J. Torpey American mechanical engineer

Paul J. Torpey (1937-2019) was an American mechanical engineer and former executive at ESEERCO research cooperation. He served as 113th president of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) in the year 1994-95.

Frank Kreith was an American mechanical engineer.

Evelyn Ning-Yi Wang is a mechanical engineer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where she is the Ford Professor of Mechanical Engineering, director of the Device Research Laboratory, and chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Topics in her research include heat transfer, ultrahydrophobicity, solar energy and nanostructures.

Andrew G. Alleyne is the Dean of the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota. He was previously the Ralph M. and Catherine V. Fisher Professor in Engineering and Director of the National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center on Power Optimization of Electro Thermal Systems at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. His work considers decision making in complex physical systems. He is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

John H. Lienhard V American mechanical engineer

John Henry Lienhard V is the Abdul Latif Jameel Professor of Water and Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research focuses on desalination, heat transfer, and thermodynamics. He has also written several engineering textbooks.

Janet Katherine Allen is an American biochemist and industrial engineer whose research concerns uncertainty in the engineering design process and its quantification and control through robust design processes, statistical methods, simulation of alternative designs, and the use of the design of experiments to systematically explore alternatives in large design spaces. She is a professor of industrial and systems engineering at the University of Oklahoma, where she holds the John and Mary Moore Chair of Engineering.

Francine Battaglia is an American aerospace engineer specializing in computational fluid dynamics, including the study of fluidized beds and of fire, fire whirls, and flame spread. Her other research interests include ventilation and energy usage in architectural design, and alternative and renewable energy systems. She is professor and chair in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of the University at Buffalo, where she directs the Computational Research for Energy Systems and Transport Laboratory.

Pamela Marie Norris is an American mechanical engineer and materials scientist known for her research on aerogels, and heat transfer on scales ranging from the nanoscale to macroscopic objects such as jet blast deflectors. She is Frederick Tracy Morse Professor Emeritus at the University of Virginia, vice provost for research at George Washington University, and editor-in-chief of the journal Nanoscale and Microscale Thermophysical Engineering.

Marcia Kilchenman O'Malley is an American mechanical engineer, the Thomas Michael Panos Family Professor in Mechanical Engineering and associate dean for research and innovation for the George R. Brown School of Engineering at Rice University. Her research concerns "systems for enhancing the human sensorimotor control system", including work on exoskeletons, neuroprosthetics, haptic technology, and brain–computer interfaces.

Galip Ulsoy Prof. of mechanical engineering

Ali Galip Ulsoy is an academic at the University of Michigan (UM), Ann Arbor, where he is the C.D. Mote, Jr. Distinguished University Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering and the William Clay Ford Professor Emeritus of Manufacturing.

Yıldız Bayazıtoğlu is a Turkish-American mechanical engineer known for her research on heat transfer on scales ranging from the fuel tanks of the Space Shuttle to nanotechnology. She has also performed research on containerless processing, fuel cells and solar cells, molecular dynamics, microchannels, and targeted temperature management in medical treatment. She is Harry S. Cameron Chair in Mechanical Engineering and professor of materials science and nanoengineering at Rice University.
