Jason Binn (born 1968) is an American publisher and entrepreneur known for founding Niche Media and DuJour Media. [3]

Biography

Binn was born in 1968 to Moreton and Penny Binn [2] in Roslyn, New York. [4] As an American Jew, [5] he graduated from Boston University's College of Communications in 1986. [6] [7] He serves on the university's advisory board. [8]

Binn married Haley Lieberman in December 2003. [6] They have three children [9] and resided together in New York City. [10] before separating in 2016. [11]

Publishing career

At 23, he began his publishing career at D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles. [1] [12] [13] [14] After graduating from Boston University, he built media brands across the country. Upon moving to South Florida, he founded Ocean Drive magazine in 1992, a luxury publication focusing on the Miami lifestyle. [12] [13] [15] [16]

In 1998, he founded Niche Media, a publisher of regional luxury magazines including Hamptons Magazine (The Hamptons, Long Island, New York), [17] [18] Aspen Peak (Aspen, Colorado), Boston Common (Boston, Mass), Capitol File (Washington, D.C.)., [19] Gotham (New York), [20] [21] Los Angeles Confidential , Vegas Magazine (Las Vegas) and Michigan Avenue (Chicago). In 2010, Binn was appointed Chairman of Niche Media Holdings LLC. In the same 2010, Binn was the Chief Advisor to Gilt Groupe, an online luxury shopping company [22] [23]

In 2012, Binn founded DuJour Media, [24] [25] his first major media launch since he sold Niche Media in 2006. [26] [27] DuJour's publications include Gotham Los Angeles, Aspen Peak and DuJour Magazine, the quarterly released chief publication, that caters to those who have a minimum net worth of $5 million. Awards and recognition

In fall 2012, Crain's New York credited Binn with making print magazines more successful in a time when print is losing market to digital media. [30] He was also recognized by American Advertising Federation. [31] In 2008 he was a recipient of Boston University's Distinguished Alumni Award for Service to Profession for his work in the field of communications and media. [32] [33]

The editor-in-chief was Samantha Yanks. The magazine was published by Debra Halpert until August 2011 when David Katz began to publish it.

Hamptons is a magazine founded by Randy Schindler in 1978 and published thirteen times throughout the year focused on real estate, interior design, fashion, art, culture, dining, entertainment, fitness, and philanthropy. The magazine was subsequently published by Niche Media, which was founded in 1998 by Jason Binn, and has an approximate circulation of 40,000 – 50,000 copies, distributed all over The Hamptons.

Aspen Peak is a regional magazine that was founded by Niche Media's Jason Binn. Niche Media was later renamed GreenGale Publishing. The publication primarily targets Aspen's most affluent residents and visitors. Niche Media was founded by Jason Binn in 1992. In 2010, Binn sold Niche Media to GreenGale Publishing, formerly known as Greenspun Media Group. He stepped down as CEO and went on to become Chief Advisor to Gilt Group Chairman Kevin Ryan and CEO and Founder of DuJour. GreenGale was acquired by Modern Luxury in 2017.
