Jason Miller (born July 24, 1976 in Detroit, Michigan) is an American rabbi and entrepreneur. Miller is the president of Access Technology, in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan, an IT and social media marketing company.

Career

Miller attended Andover High School (Michigan), [2] graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in international relations and then attended the Jewish Theological Seminary where he became an ordained rabbi and earned a master's degree in education. At JTS, Miller was named the first recipient of the Gladstein Fellowship. [3]

In addition to heading a technology company, he also is the founder and director of his own kosher certification agency, Kosher Michigan. [4]

Along with a monthly technology column for The Detroit Jewish News , Miller blogs about the intersection of technology and Judaism for the JewishTechs.com blog, The Huffington Post , Time.com and his own blog, which launched in March 2003.

A 2011 parody on YouTube [5] of Texas Governor Rick Perry's presidential campaign commercial which critics considered anti-gay, gave Miller international attention, with coverage in several print and online media outlets including The Washington Post , The Jewish Daily Forward , [6] CNN, Jewish Journal, [7] Der Spiegel Online, [8] Miami Herald , [9] JTA, [10] and the USA Today . [11]

Miller was listed as the ninth most influential person on "Jewish Twitter" by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency in 2016 [12] and was one of ten winners of a Jewish influencer award from the National Jewish Outreach Program in January 2012. [13] He was chosen as the Community of Excellence Young Entrepreneur of the Year by the Greater West Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce in April 2012. Miller was also cited as one of the top Jewish Twitter users by The Huffington Post [14] and was referred to as "the most technologically savvy Jewish leader in Detroit" by the Detroit Free Press . Andover High School was a public high school in Bloomfield Township, Oakland County, Michigan, near Bloomfield Hills and in Greater Detroit. It was a part of the Bloomfield Hills School District. The school's final principal was Rob Durecka. The school teams were known as the Andover Barons.

Frankel Jewish Academy(FJA), named after its major benefactors Jean and Samuel Frankel, is a college-preparatory independent Jewish day school in West Bloomfield, a city in the Detroit metropolitan area. Opened in 2000 primarily for providing continuity of Jewish education for the graduates of Hillel Day School, a local Conservative K – 8 school, it became the first multi-denominational Jewish high school in Michigan. It provides both secular and Judaic studies instruction for ninth through 12th grade students coming from various denominations within Judaism, including Reform, Conservative, and Orthodox.

Magen Tzedek, originally known as Hekhsher Tzedek, is a complementary certification for kosher food produced in the United States in a way that meets Jewish Halakhic (legal) standards for workers, consumers, animals, and the environment, as understood by Conservative Judaism. Magen Tzedek certification is not a kashrut certification which certifies that food is kosher in that it meets certain requirements regarding ingredients of food and technical methods of animal slaughter, but an ethical certification complementary to conventional kosher certification.

Jews have been living in Metro Detroit since it was first founded, and have been prominent in all parts of life in the city. The city has a rich Jewish history, but the Jewish community has also seen tensions and faced anti-Jewish backlash. Today, the Jewish community is quite established and has a number of community organizations and institutions.

Chabad hipsters are the cross-acculturated members of the Chabad Hasidic community and contemporary hipster subculture. Beginning from the late 2000s through the 2010s, a minor trend of cross acculturation of Chabad Hasidism and hipster subculture appeared within the New York Jewish community. The first printed reference to this trend was the 2007 New York Press cover story, "Hipster Hassids" by Alyssa Pinsker. Later, according to The Jewish Daily Forward, a significant number of members of the Chabad Hasidic community, mostly residing in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, appear to now have adopted various cultural affinities of the local hipster subculture.

Noah Jeremy Arbit is an American politician who has served as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives since 2023. A member of the Democratic Party, Arbit represents Michigan's 20th House District, anchored in West Bloomfield Township, alongside Keego Harbor, Orchard Lake, Sylvan Lake, and portions of Commerce and Bloomfield townships. First elected in the November 2022 general election, Arbit is the youngest LGBTQ+ person ever elected to serve in the Michigan Legislature.
