Jason Wing (born 12 October 1965) is a British bobsledder who competed in the mid-1990s.

Sporting career

Wing's first sporting success was as a junior long jumper and sprinter, and he featured in the national rankings from 1980 to 1989.[ citation needed ]. Wing had personal bests of 10.7 for 100m and 7.22m in the long jump. During his time as a student Wing was British College's Long Jump champion on three occasions from 1985 to 1989. During his time as an athlete he was coached by the 1980 Olympic 100m Allan Wells who introduced Wing to the sport of bobsleigh. Wing was quickly promoted to the Great Britain team to compete on the World Cup circuit of competitions. Wing was selected for the squad to compete at the 1992 Olympic Games in La Plagne, France but instead chose to pursue a professional career in Rugby League.[ citation needed ]

Wing returned to bobsleigh for the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer where he finished fifth in the four-man event for GB1 team piloted by Mark Tout. He gained a silver medal at the 1994 European Championships (four-man) in La Plagne, France as well as gaining silver and bronze medals during the 1993/4 World Cup circuit in Altenberg, Germany and St Moritz, Switzerland. After a two-year break from bobsleigh competition Wing again returned to the sport and was selected for the GB squad for the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano but he suffered a career-ending injury to his thigh whilst competing in a World Cup race in Calgary, Canada.[ citation needed ]

As a teenager Wing played Rugby Union for Cambridgeshire Colts before being introduced to Rugby League during his time at Borough Road PE College in west London. In 1988 Wing was selected for Great Britain Students Rugby League side playing against France. He later played professional Rugby League for London Crusaders in 1991-1993.[ citation needed ]

Teaching career

Wing is a schoolteacher and has taught PE since 1989. Educated at Neale-Wade School, he taught at several schools including Witchford Village College, Isleworth and Syon School and Gunnersbury School for Boys.[ citation needed ] Wing coached a number of high-performing athletes during his time as a PE teacher, including Watford FC player Michael Bryan.[ citation needed ]

He returned to his former school Neale-Wade as principal in 2011. [1] Wing was appointed as Executive Headteacher for both Neale-Wade and Burrowmoor Primary School in May 2015. In June 2017 Wing was awarded National Leader of Education status and Neale-Wade was in turn was designated as a National Support School.

Christopher Anderson is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s and 1980s, and coached in the 1990s and 2000s. An Australian Kangaroos and New South Wales Blues representative winger, he featured in Canterbury-Bankstown's third grand final win and captained Halifax to both League and Cup success.

Siobhán Hoey is an Irish sportswoman from Portarlington, County Laois. She has competed in both track and field and bobsleigh.

Gregory James Rutherford MBE is a retired British track and field athlete who specialised in the long jump. He represented Great Britain at the Olympics, World and European Championships, and England at the Commonwealth Games. In September 2021 Rutherford was selected as part of the British bobsleigh team but was injured during preparations to qualify for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

As a sprinter, he was based at the Marshall Milton Keynes Athletics Club; however, he also ran for the University of Bath and Newham and Essex Beagles. Following his retirement from professional sport, he became an academic researcher and gained a professional doctorate in sports performance from the University of Central Lancashire. He relocated to Australia in 2015 and currently works as director of performance sustainability at Athletics Australia.

Competing in athletics, he won the gold medal for England in the triple jump at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh. He represented Great Britain at the 1984 Summer Olympics and 1988 Summer Olympics. He competed in the four-man bobsleigh event at the 1994 Winter Olympics.

Rodney Davies is an Australian international rugby union footballer who plays for the Western Force. He previously played six seasons for the Queensland Reds in the Super Rugby competition. Davies has represented Australia in both fifteen-a-side and seven-a-side rugby. He is also a former rugby league footballer.

Montell Marcelle Douglas is a British multi-sports Olympian. Originally a sprinter and former British record holder for the 100 metres at 11.05 seconds, she competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Taking up bobsleigh in 2016 and becoming part of the Great Britain two-woman bobsleigh team the following year, she competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics. She is one of the two athletes, the other being Jaqueline Mourão, who participated in both of the Olympic Games hosted by Beijing. She also appeared as Fire in the 2024 BBC One reboot of Gladiators.

She represented the United States at the 2022 Winter Olympics, where she competed in the two-woman bobsled.
