History

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal was established in 1972 following a split in Bangladesh Chhatra League. The party split twice during the term of President Ziaur Rahman. It split again during the reign of President Hussain Mohammad Ershad, forming Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD, led by A. S. M. Abdur Rab, and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Siraj), led by Shajahan Siraj. [3]

A. S. M. Abdur Rab is a Bangladeshi politician. He is the founder secretary general of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal. In 1985, Rab and his followers left the party and formed a new party Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD, known as JSD (Rab). He served as the Jatiya Sangsad Member from Lakshmipur-4 and the Minister of Shipping and later the Minister of Fisheries and Livestock during 1996-2001 of the first Sheikh Hasina Cabinet.

Shajahan Siraj was a Bangladeshi politician who served as the vice chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). As a student, he was involved with the Bangladesh Liberation War. He was one of the founders of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal. He was a member of Jatiya Sangsad representing the Tangail-4 constituency.

Gonobahini was the armed wing of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal. The group was mainly composed of former Mukti Bahini members from the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.

The Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Bengali: জাতীয় সমাজতান্ত্রিক দল, 'National Socialist Party') is a political party in Bangladesh. It was formed in 2002, through a split from the original Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal. The party is sometimes referred to as JSD (Rab) (after prominent party leader ASM Abdur Rab), to differentiate it from the mother party led by Hasanul Haq Inu. The Election Commission of Bangladesh calls the party Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD and the Inu-led party Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-Jasad.

Socialism in Bangladesh differs from socialist countries where all the means of production are owned socially. Socialism is one of the four fundamental principles of state policy in the original Constitution of Bangladesh, along with nationalism, democracy and secularism. It's also mentioned in the preamble. "Socialism" has been considered in the Constitution as "a way to establish an exploitation-free society". The constitution allows cooperative and private ownership along with state ownership. The Constitution recognizes Bangladesh as a people's republic, and pledges to ensure the emancipation of peasants and workers, and endeavours to protect and improve their conditions. Like socialist constitutions, it also declares for free and compulsory education.

Shirin Akhter is the general secretary of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal and the incumbent Member of Bangladesh Levgistvie Council member representing the Feni-1 constituency since January 2014.

The 7 November 1975 Bangladesh coup d'état was a coup d'état launched by left-wing army personnel in collaboration with left-wing politicians from Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal. The coup resulted in the death of Major General Khaled Mosharraf, who only 3 days prior, led a coup against those involved in the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. During the coup, Ziaur Rahman was freed from house arrest, enabling him to seize power and become president.

The Bangladesh Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal is a political party in Bangladesh, led by Sharif Nurul Ambia. The party emerged from a split in the Inu-led Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal in 2016. Sharif Nurul Ambia became the president of the new JSD faction, Moinuddin Khan Badal the executive president and Nazmul Haque Prodhan as general secretary. The party joined the Awami League-led 14-Party Alliance. Ahead of the 2018 Bangladeshi general election, the Awami League allowed the party to field its candidate Mayeen Uddin Khan Badal to contest the Chittagong-8 seat on their election symbol. In 2022, the party left the 14-Party Alliance.
