Punjabi cinema, sometimes metonymously referred to as Pollywood, is the Punjabi-language film industry centered around the Indian state of Punjab, and based in Amritsar and Mohali.
Gurpreet Singh Waraich, commonly known as Gurpreet Ghuggi, is an Indian actor, comedian and politician. He is known for his works in Punjabi and Hindi films. Ghuggi began his career by acting in theatre in the early 1990s, after which he had recurring roles in television series such as Ronak Mela and the soap opera Parchhaven. He gained international public recognition with comedic leading roles through his videos Ghuggi Junction (2003) and Ghuggi Shoo Mantar (2004), before beginning his film career by starring as Patwari Jhilmil Singh in Asa Nu Maan Watna Da (2004). He starred in the film Carry On Jatta (2012), and was praised for his meaningful leading role in Ardaas (2015).

The Movie was released worldwide on 10 April 2009 and had earned $108,741 in first two weeks. The movie was shot by Spice Cine Vision Studios and was distributed by Eros International. The movie was stated to be the costliest Punjabi movie ever made and was the first Punjabi movie to be shot in Switzerland. Tera Mera Ki Rishta was also the first Punjabi Movie to be promoted online by www.punjabiportal.com and an official movie launch center website was also introduced. The movie is a remake of the 2005 Telugu movie Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana.
The Lion of Punjab is an Indian Punjabi action film starring Diljit Dosanjh, making his debut as an actor. It is also the debut Punjabi movie of Bollywood director Guddu Dhanoa. A huge set of a temple, a church, some houses and a shopping area, was erected at the Indian Express Office premises. It is a remake of 2003 Tamil movie Dhool.
Dharti is a 2011 Indian Punjabi political suspense thriller film directed by Navaniat Singh with story, screenplay and dialogues by Manoj Jha. Dharti was produced by Darshan Singh Grewal, J.S. Kataria and Jimmy Sheirgill, and stars Jimmy Sheirgill, Surveen Chawla, Rannvijay Singh, Japji Khera, Prem Chopra, Rahul Dev, Binnu Dhillon and Shavinder Mahal. It was released on 21 April in Australia and on 22 April 2011 globally. The film was to be made in Hindi but, on much insistence of Shergill, the producers and the directors agreed to make it in Punjabi.

This movie was remade in Odia in 2015 as Pilata Bigidigala, in Telugu in 2016 as Eedo Rakam Aado Rakam, in Bangladesh (Bengali) in 2017 as Dhat Teri Ki and in Bengali (India) in 2019 as Jamai Badal. The core storyline was loosely based on the 1989 Malayalam movie Chakkikotha Chankaran.

The story is based on the lives of ladiesman Lucky; and his three married friends and how they enchance minor trouble. The film released on 26 April 2013 and became an instant blockbuster at the Indian box office apparently. The core storyline was loosely based on the 2002 Tamil movie Panchathantiram which itself was inspired by the 1998 movie Very Bad Things.
