Biography
Spaulding was the founder of radio station WNCS FM 104.7 in Montpelier and was a general partner in Precision Media,Inc. He also served as the director of career and workforce development at the Vermont Department of Education,and as director of the Vermont Academy of Science and Technology at Vermont Technical College. He has been an adjunct professor of communications at Norwich University.
Previously,Spaulding represented the Washington County district for eight terms (1985–2001) in the Vermont State Senate,where he chaired the Appropriations Committee,the Education Committee,the Joint Fiscal Committee and the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules. In 1984,he defeated Republican incumbent H. Edsel Hughes to win one of the district's three seats. [1] In 2000,he did not run for reelection,and Republican Phil Scott won the seat Spaulding vacated. Spaulding served four terms as state treasurer (2003–2011) and,in 2009,also served as president of the National Association of State Treasurers. [3]
Spaulding considered running for Governor of Vermont in 2010, [4] [5] but opted instead to seek re-election to a fifth term as state treasurer. Spaulding faced token opposition and won re-election with 90% of the vote. [6]
On November 15,2010,Gov.-Elect Peter Shumlin nominated Spaulding to be the incoming Secretary of Administration,the senior cabinet position in the executive branch. [7] He resigned as treasurer in January,2011.
In January 2015 Spaulding left the administration secretary's post to become chancellor of the Vermont State Colleges.
On April 17,2020,Spaulding announced his plans to close several Vermont State Colleges campuses including Vermont Tech and Northern Vermont University due to funding issues related to student and teacher absence during the COVID-19 outbreak. [8]
Shortly after announcing his plans,Spaulding resigned his post as Chancellor of the Vermont State Colleges due to widespread backlash surrounding the proposal. [9]
Brian E. Dubie is an American politician who was the 80th lieutenant governor of Vermont from 2003 to 2011. He lost the 2010 election for governor of Vermont by fewer than 5,000 votes.
Douglas Alan Racine is an American politician and former Vermont Secretary of Human Services, a former Vermont State Senator and was the 79th lieutenant governor of Vermont from 1997 to 2003. He is a Democrat. Racine was a candidate for the 2010 Democratic nomination for Governor of Vermont. He previously ran for governor in 2002, but lost to Republican Jim Douglas. In an election where no candidate won a majority, Douglas won a 45% plurality, and Racine declined to contest the outcome before the Vermont General Assembly.
Matt Dunne is an American politician and businessman from the U.S. state of Vermont. He served four terms in the Vermont House of Representatives, two terms in the Vermont State Senate, was the Democratic candidate in the 2006 Vermont Lt. Governor's race, and the fourth-place finisher in the Democratic primary during the Vermont gubernatorial election, 2010.
Randolph D. "Randy" Brock III is an American politician from the state of Vermont and a member of the Republican Party. He currently serves in the Vermont Senate and is the first African American caucus leader in Vermont. He served as the Vermont Auditor of Accounts from 2005 to 2007, as a member of the Vermont Senate from 2009 to 2013 and was the Republican nominee for Governor of Vermont in 2012, losing to Democratic incumbent Peter Shumlin. He ran unopposed for the 2016 Republican nomination for Lieutenant Governor of Vermont. In December 2017, Governor Phil Scott announced that he had appointed Brock to the Vermont Senate, filling the vacancy caused by the resignation of Dustin Allard Degree.

The 2010 Vermont gubernatorial general election took place on November 2. Vermont and New Hampshire are the only two states where the governor serves a two-year term instead of four. Primary elections took place on August 24.
Philip Brian Scott is an American politician, businessman, and stock car racer who has served as the 82nd governor of Vermont since 2017. A member of the Republican Party, he was elected governor in the 2016 general election with 53% of the vote. He was reelected in 2018 with 55.2% of the vote; in 2020 with 68.5%; and in 2022 with 69.2% of the vote and a margin of 46%, the largest of any Vermont gubernatorial election since 1996, and the largest for a Republican since 1950. Scott was the 81st lieutenant governor of Vermont from 2011 to 2017 and a state senator representing the Washington County district from 2001 to 2011.
Dustin Allard Degree is a politician from the city of St. Albans in the U.S. state of Vermont. A Republican, he represented St. Albans in the Vermont General Assembly during the 2011-2012 biennial session. Degree graduated from Bellows Free Academy, St. Albans in 2003, attended the Tilton School in 2004, and attended Norwich University and the University of Vermont. He worked in the office of Governor Jim Douglas.
The 2012 Vermont gubernatorial election took place on November 6, 2012, to elect the Governor of Vermont. Incumbent Democratic Governor Peter Shumlin won re-election to a second term, making this the only one of his gubernatorial elections in which he won a majority of the vote. In his 2010 and 2014 races, the Vermont General Assembly was required to choose a winner in accordance with the state constitution, because no candidate won a majority.
Beth Robinson is an American lawyer and judge from Vermont. She is a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and is the first openly lesbian judge to serve on any Circuit Court. Robinson served as an associate justice of the Vermont Supreme Court from 2011 to 2021.

Michael J. Obuchowski is a former member of the Vermont House of Representatives. Elected at age 20 in 1972, he won reelection 19 times, serving continuously from January, 1973 until resigning in January, 2011 to accept appointment as Vermont's Buildings and General Services Commissioner. Obuchowski served as Speaker from 1995 to 2001.

Scott Edward Milne is an American businessman and political candidate from North Pomfret, Vermont. A Republican, Milne was the party's nominee for Lieutenant Governor of Vermont in 2020, losing to Democrat Molly Gray; the nominee for United States Senate in 2016, losing to incumbent Democrat Patrick Leahy; and the nominee for Governor of Vermont in 2014, losing to two-term incumbent Peter Shumlin in the closest gubernatorial election in Vermont since 1962.
