The University of Texas System is an American government entity of the state of Texas that includes 13 higher educational institutions throughout the state including eight universities and five independent health institutions. The UT System is headquartered in Downtown Austin. Its total enrollment of nearly 240,000 students is the largest university system in Texas. It employs 21,000 faculty and more than 83,000 health care professionals,researchers and support staff. The UT System's $30 billion endowment is the largest of any public university system in the United States. In 2018,Reuters ranked the UT System among the top 10 most innovative academic institutions in the world.

Wendell Herman Nedderman was an American academic administrator who was president of the University of Texas at Arlington for nearly 20 years,first as acting president,then as president,leaving that post in July 1992. He began his 33 years of full-time service at UT Arlington in 1959 as the founding dean of the College of Engineering. This was followed by four years as vice president for academic affairs,and then 20 years as president. A campus engineering building was named Nedderman Hall in 1991 by the UT System board of regents. Campus Street and a portion of Monroe Street were combined and named Nedderman Drive by the City of Arlington in 1992. He was named president emeritus in 1992,and received the Mirabeau B. Lamar Award for Leadership in Learning from the Association of Texas Colleges and Universities. He was awarded the Anson Marston Medal for Achievement in the Field of Engineering in 2000 from Iowa State University.

Texas A&M University–Central Texas is a public university in Killeen,Texas. It is one of the newest members of The Texas A&M University System. Founded in 1999 as a branch of Tarleton State University,it became an independent member of the Texas A&M University System in September 2009. A&M-Central Texas is an upper division college,meaning its students must complete their freshman and sophomore-level coursework at a two-year college or other institution of higher education. Kim E. Schatzel is an American academic administrator who is the 19th president of the University of Louisville. She joined Eastern Michigan University in January 2012 as provost and executive vice president of academic and student affairs,and became interim president on July 8,2015,following the resignation of Susan Martin. Schatzel was previously dean of the college of business at University of Michigan–Dearborn. On November 30,2022 she was announced as the next president of University of Louisville and began her tenure on February 1,2023.
The College of Architecture,Planning and Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Arlington is a professional school of design located in Arlington,Texas. In 2015,The University of Texas at Arlington’s School of Architecture and School of Urban and Public Affairs united to form the College of Architecture,Planning and Public Affairs (CAPPA). The integration of the two schools strengthened the academic and research opportunities available for students and faculty at UTA and provides nationally ranked programs that are unique to the Dallas–Fort Worth region. UTA is the only university in the North Texas region to offer degree programs in architecture,landscape architecture and urban planning.
Rachel Toni Algaze Croson is an economist currently serving as Executive Vice President and Provost of the University of Minnesota,and McKnight Endowed Professor of Economics. Until March 2020,she served as Dean of the College of Social Science and MSU Foundation Professor of Economics at Michigan State University. She earned her bachelor's degree in economics and the philosophy of science from the University of Pennsylvania and her master's and Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.
Susan M. Collins is an American economist who has served as the 14th president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston since July 1,2022. She is the first African American woman and first woman of color to lead any of the 12 regional Federal Reserve Banks. Collins previously served as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs of the University of Michigan from 2020 to 2022.
In April 1965,the Texas Legislature transferred Arlington State College (ASC) from the Texas A&M University System to the University of Texas System. The following year,Maxwell Scarlett was the first African-American graduate in ASC history. In March 1967,ASC was renamed the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). Jack Woolf,president of ASC and UTA since 1959,resigned in 1968 and was succeeded by Frank Harrison;Harrison was president until 1972. UTA awarded its first master's degrees in 1968,all in engineering. Reby Cary,the university's first African-American administrator,was hired the following year.
