Jeremy Phillips (born 25 December 1951 [1] ) is a retired British academic, author, editor, publisher, and commentator in intellectual property (IP) law. [1] [2] [3] In 2007, he was reported to be "a respected IP academic" and "a well-known figure among IP lawyers." [3]

Career

He read law at Cambridge University in the early 1970s and went on doing a PhD at the University of Kent. [2] He then taught law at Trinity College Dublin, Durham University, and Queen Mary University of London. [2]

In 1990, he launched the Managing Intellectual Property magazine [3] [4] and sold it to Euromoney Publications in 1991. [1] He also edited the magazines Patent World , Trademark World and Copyright World and cofounded the IPKat weblog. [3] [4] [2] He also contributed to the Afro-IP blog and the Class 46 blog on European Trade Mark law. [5] He was editor of the Journal of Intellectual Property Law & Practice (JIPLP), European Trade Mark Reports and European Copyright and Design Reports journals. He was also a council member of the Intellectual Property Institute. [6]

He was consultant at the law firm Slaughter and May until May 2007 and worked as a consultant at the law firm Olswang from June 2007 until his retirement in 2015. [3] [4] [7] He was visiting professor at the Faculty of Laws of University College London (UCL), the Bournemouth Law School, Bournemouth University, and the University of Alicante. [8] He was also professorial fellow at the Queen Mary Intellectual Property Research Institute from 2003 to 2006. [1]

Jonathan Ward "Jon" Dudas is the senior vice president, senior associate to the president and secretary of the University of Arizona. He previously served as Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) until January 18, 2009. He was nominated to the position by former President George W. Bush in March 2004 and appointed in July 2004. Dudas previously served as acting Under Secretary and Director, and Deputy Under Secretary and Deputy Director from 2002 to 2004. He is also a member of the board of directors of Conversant Intellectual Property Management.

Francis Gerard Gurry is an Australian lawyer who served as the fourth director general of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) from 2008 to 2020. During that time, he was also the secretary-general of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV). Gurry also served as a deputy director general of WIPO from 2003 to 2008.

The World Intellectual Property Review (WIPR) is a bimonthly magazine providing news and analysis on issues in intellectual property. Between July 2011 and June 2012, the average number of copies per issue was about 5,200. All copies were distributed for free. The magazine is published since 2006 by Newton Media Ltd, which also publishes the World Intellectual Property Review Annual, a guide to "intellectual property developments in the past year." WIPR is not indexed in any major legal periodicals database, such as Web of Science, Scopus, Dimensions, lens.org, World Wide Science, Open Alex, etc.

Shamnad Basheer was an Indian legal scholar and founder of the blog SpicyIP. He was also the founder of IDIA, a trust which works on making legal education accessible for underprivileged students. Basheer was a Ministry of Human Resource Development Chaired Professor of Intellectual Property Law at the WBNUJS, Kolkata, and the Frank H. Marks Visiting Associate Professor of Intellectual Property Law at the George Washington University Law School, and a research associate at the Oxford Intellectual Property Research Center (OIPRC). He founded several initiatives such as SpicyIP, IDIA, P-PIL and Lex Biosis. Basheer intervened in the landmark Novartis case, filed a number of other public interest litigations and took initiative to bring about changes in the IPR regime in India.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Daren Tang</span> Singaporean lawyer (born 1972)

Daren Tang Heng Shim is the fifth and current Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). He is also Secretary-General of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV). Tang previously headed the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) and was a trade lawyer for the government of Singapore.
