Joseph Alt (born February 28, 2003) is an American football offensive tackle for the Los Angeles Chargers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, earning two All-American honors before being selected fifth overall by the Chargers in the 2024 NFL draft. He is the son of former Kansas City Chiefs player John Alt and younger brother of ice hockey player Mark Alt.

Early years

Alt was born on February 28, 2003, in North Oaks, Minnesota. [1] He attended the Totino-Grace High School in Fridley, Minnesota. He played offensive tackle and tight end. [2] He committed to the University of Notre Dame to play college football. [3] [4]

College career

As a true freshman at Notre Dame in 2021, Alt played offensive tackle and tight end. He played in all 13 games and started the final 13 games at left tackle. [5] [6] In 2023, he was a finalist for the Outland Trophy, which is awarded to the nation's best OL/Interior DL. [7] He was unanimously named to the 2023 College Football All-America Team and declared for the 2024 NFL draft following the season. [8] [9]

Alt was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers fifth overall in the 2024 NFL draft. [12]

Personal life

His father, John Alt, played in the NFL for the Kansas City Chiefs. [13] His older brother, Mark, is a professional ice hockey player as a defenseman who played nine games for the Colorado Avalanche. [14]

John Michael Alt is a former professional American football offensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL). He played his entire NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs from 1984 to 1996. He was drafted in the first round of the 1984 NFL Draft with the 21st overall pick. A graduate of Columbia Heights (MN) High School, he played his college years at the University of Iowa.
