Norseman is a town located in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia along the Coolgardie-Esperance Highway,726 kilometres (451 mi) east of Perth and 278 metres (912 ft) above sea level. It is also the starting point of the Eyre Highway,and the last major town in Western Australia before the South Australian border 720 kilometres (447 mi) to the east. At the 2021 census,Norseman had a population of 562,of which 17% were Australian Aboriginal.

The Division of Kalgoorlie was an Australian electoral division in the state of Western Australia,named after the city of Kalgoorlie. The Division was proclaimed in 1900 as one of the original 65 divisions to be contested at the first federal election in 1901. In its final form,it covered most of the land area of Western Australia,with a size of 2,295,354 square kilometres (886,241 sq mi)—over 90 percent of the state's landmass. It included the Goldfields-Esperance,Gascoyne,Pilbara and Kimberley regions of Western Australia,in addition to the eastern and far northern parts of the Mid West region,and the town of Merredin. It was the largest single-member electorate by area in the world—almost a third of the continent.
The Eastern Goldfields Railway was built in the 1890s by the Western Australian Government Railways to connect Perth with the Eastern Goldfields at Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie.

From 1988 to 2023,she has served in politics at a federal,state,and local level,including as a minister in the Western Australian state governments of Geoff Gallop,Alan Carpenter,and Mark McGowan. She is best known for her role as the minister for planning and infrastructure during the construction of the Mandurah line. Born in Melbourne,she moved to Perth to study at the University of Western Australia,graduating with a Bachelor of Arts and later with a law degree. She worked for the Department of Employment before practising as a lawyer between 1986 and 1992. During this time,she also served on the Perth City Council. In 1976,MacTiernan joined the Australian Labor Party,and at the 1993 Western Australian state election,she was elected to the Legislative Council's East Metropolitan Region. She became a shadow minister in October 1994,and she was transferred to the Legislative Assembly at the 1996 state election,winning the seat of Armadale.

John Biase D'Orazio was an Australian politician who served as the member for Ballajura in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly from 10 February 2001 to 6 September 2008. He was a minister in the governments of Geoff Gallop and Alan Carpenter,and a member of the Australian Labor Party until 29 August 2006,when he resigned following several controversies. Born to Italian immigrants,D'Orazio grew up on a market garden in the Perth suburb of Bayswater. He studied pharmacy at the Western Australian Institute of Technology,later opening his own pharmacy business. In 1981,he was elected to the Bayswater council,and in 1984,he became the mayor of Bayswater,in which position he served until 2001.
The Carpenter Ministry was the 34th Ministry of the Government of Western Australia,and was led by Labor Premier Alan Carpenter and his deputy Eric Ripper. It succeeded the Gallop Ministry on 3 February 2006 due to the retirement of Dr Geoff Gallop from politics on 25 January,and was in turn succeeded by the Barnett Ministry on 23 September 2008 after the Labor Party lost government at the state election held on 6 September.
The Gallop Ministry was the 33rd Ministry of the Government of Western Australia,and was led by Labor Premier Geoff Gallop and his deputy,Eric Ripper. It succeeded the Court–Cowan Ministry on 16 February 2001,following the defeat of the Liberal-National coalition government at the 2001 election six days earlier. The Ministry was reconstituted on 10 March 2005 following the February 2005 election. It was succeeded by the Carpenter Ministry on 3 February 2006 due to the retirement of Dr Geoff Gallop from politics on 25 January.

Main Roads Western Australia controls the major roads in the state's Goldfields-Esperance region. While the region is the state's largest,the major roads are restricted to the region's western and southern edges. From the major population centres of Kalgoorlie and Coolgardie,Great Eastern Highway heads west towards Perth via the Wheatbelt;Coolgardie–Esperance Highway leads south to the port of Esperance via Norseman;and Goldfields Highway proceeds north to Wiluna and then on to the Mid West Region. From Norseman,Eyre Highway takes interstate traffic east across the Nullarbor Plain and into South Australia.
