Social science is one of the branches of science,devoted to the study of societies and the relationships among individuals within those societies. The term was formerly used to refer to the field of sociology,the original "science of society",established in the 18th century. In addition to sociology,it now encompasses a wide array of academic disciplines,including anthropology,archaeology,economics,geography,linguistics,management,communication studies,psychology,culturology and political science.
Kenneth Joseph Arrow was an American economist,mathematician,writer,and political theorist. Along with John Hicks,he won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 1972.
Edward Witten is an American theoretical physicist known for his contributions to string theory,topological quantum field theory,and various areas of mathematics. He is a professor emeritus in the school of natural sciences at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. Witten is a researcher in string theory,quantum gravity,supersymmetric quantum field theories,and other areas of mathematical physics. Witten's work has also significantly impacted pure mathematics. In 1990,he became the first physicist to be awarded a Fields Medal by the International Mathematical Union,for his mathematical insights in physics,such as his 1981 proof of the positive energy theorem in general relativity,and his interpretation of the Jones invariants of knots as Feynman integrals. He is considered the practical founder of M-theory.
Robert Emerson Lucas Jr. was an American economist at the University of Chicago. Widely regarded as the central figure in the development of the new classical approach to macroeconomics,he received the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 1995 "for having developed and applied the hypothesis of rational expectations,and thereby having transformed macroeconomic analysis and deepened our understanding of economic policy". He was characterized by N. Gregory Mankiw as "the most influential macroeconomist of the last quarter of the 20th century". In 2020,he ranked as the 10th most cited economist in the world.
Sajeev John,OC,FRSC is a Professor of Physics at the University of Toronto and Canada Research Chair holder. He is known for his discovery of photonic crystals.
John Tuzo Wilson was a Canadian geophysicist and geologist who achieved worldwide acclaim for his contributions to the theory of plate tectonics.
Michael Frank Goodchild is a British-American geographer. He is an Emeritus Professor of Geography at the University of California,Santa Barbara. After nineteen years at the University of Western Ontario,including three years as chair,he moved to Santa Barbara in 1988,as part of the establishment of the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis,which he directed for over 20 years. In 2008,he founded the UCSB Center for Spatial Studies.
Sir David Roxbee Cox was a British statistician and educator. His wide-ranging contributions to the field of statistics included introducing logistic regression,the proportional hazards model and the Cox process,a point process named after him.
Sir Partha Sarathi Dasgupta is an Indian-British economist who is Frank Ramsey Professor Emeritus of Economics at the University of Cambridge,United Kingdom,and a fellow of St John's College,Cambridge.

John Ross Mackay,was a Canadian geographer. He is most noted for his explorations of permafrost phenomena in the western Canadian Arctic. His 40 plus years of study has enabled the building of pipeline operations and petroleum explorations in areas of frozen ground. He is Lloyd Viel Berkner Regental Professor in the School of Economic,Political and Policy Sciences at the University of Texas at Dallas. His urban and regional research in the 1960s sparked geography’s social-scientific revolution and made him the most-cited geographer for more than 25 years.

Peter Wilkinson Howitt is a Canadian economist. He is the Lyn Crost Professor of Social Sciences at Brown University. Howitt is a Fellow of the Econometric Society since 1994 and a Fellow of Royal Society of Canada since 1992. He served as president of the Canadian Economics Association in 1993–1994 and was the editor of the Journal of Money,Credit,and Banking in the period 1997–2000. For 2019 he received the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in Economics.
Prof James Wreford Watson FRSE FRSC IBG LLD was a Scottish Canadian geographer and cartographer,who served as the Chief Geographer of Canada and the first president of the Canadian Association of Geographers. He was also a poet who wrote under the name James Wreford and was the recipient of Canada's top literary honor,the Governor General's Award,for his poetry.
Stathis Psillos is a Greek philosopher of science. He is Professor of Philosophy of Science and Metaphysics at the University of Athens,Greece and a member of the Rotman Institute of Philosophy of the University of Western Ontario. In 2013–15,he held the Rotman Canada Research Chair in Philosophy of Science at the University of Western Ontario,Canada.
Suzanne Michelle Driedger is a Métis Canadian health scientist. She is a Professor at the University of Manitoba College of Medicine and former Canada Research Chair in Environment and Health Risk Communications. In 2023,Driedger was named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada for her research in public health risk communication.
Alexander Stewart Fotheringham is a British-American geographer known for his contributions to quantitative geography,geographic information science (GIScience),and spatial analysis. He holds a Ph.D. in geography from McMaster University and is a Regents professor of computational spatial science in the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning at Arizona State University. He has contributed to the literature surrounding spatial analysis and spatial statistics,particularly in the development of geographically weighted regression (GWR) and multiscale geographically weighted regression (MGWR).
