Social science is one of the branches of science,devoted to the study of societies and the relationships among individuals within those societies. The term was formerly used to refer to the field of sociology,the original "science of society",established in the 19th century. In addition to sociology,it now encompasses a wide array of academic disciplines,including anthropology,archaeology,economics,human geography,linguistics,management science,communication science and political science.
Kenneth Joseph Arrow was an American economist,mathematician,writer,and political theorist. He was the joint winner of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences with John Hicks in 1972.
Edward Witten is an American mathematical and theoretical physicist. He is a professor emeritus in the school of natural sciences at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. Witten is a researcher in string theory,quantum gravity,supersymmetric quantum field theories,and other areas of mathematical physics. Witten's work has also significantly impacted pure mathematics. In 1990,he became the first physicist to be awarded a Fields Medal by the International Mathematical Union,for his mathematical insights in physics,such as his 1981 proof of the positive energy theorem in general relativity,and his interpretation of the Jones invariants of knots as Feynman integrals. He is considered the practical founder of M-theory.
Robert Emerson Lucas Jr. was an American economist at the University of Chicago. Widely regarded as the central figure in the development of the new classical approach to macroeconomics,he received the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1995 "for having developed and applied the hypothesis of rational expectations,and thereby having transformed macroeconomic analysis and deepened our understanding of economic policy". He was characterized by N. Gregory Mankiw as "the most influential macroeconomist of the last quarter of the 20th century". In 2020,he ranked as the 10th most cited economist in the world.

Michael Frank Goodchild is a British-American geographer. He is an Emeritus Professor of Geography at the University of California,Santa Barbara. After nineteen years at the University of Western Ontario,including three years as chair,he moved to Santa Barbara in 1988,as part of the establishment of the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis,which he directed for over 20 years. In 2008,he founded the UCSB Center for Spatial Studies.
Sir David Roxbee Cox was a British statistician and educator. His wide-ranging contributions to the field of statistics included introducing logistic regression,the proportional hazards model and the Cox process,a point process named after him.
Sir Oliver Simon D'Arcy Hart is a British-born American economist,currently the Lewis P. and Linda L. Geyser University Professor at Harvard University. Together with Bengt R. Holmström,he received the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 2016.
Robert Aubrey Hinde was a British zoologist,ethologist and psychologist. He served as the Emeritus Royal Society Research Professor of Zoology at the University of Cambridge. Hinde is best known for his ethological contributions to the fields of animal behaviour and developmental psychology.
John Ross Mackay,was a Canadian geographer. He is most noted for his explorations of permafrost phenomena in the western Canadian Arctic. His 40 plus years of study has enabled the building of pipeline operations and petroleum explorations in areas of frozen ground. The Royal Society of Canada stated the following when Mackay was awarded the Willet G. Miller Medal in 1975:

He is Lloyd Viel Berkner Regental Professor in the School of Economic,Political and Policy Sciences at the University of Texas at Dallas. His urban and regional research in the 1960s sparked geography’s social-scientific revolution and made him the most-cited geographer for more than 25 years.

Prof James Wreford Watson FRSE FRSC IBG LLD was a Scottish Canadian geographer and cartographer,who served as the Chief Geographer of Canada and the first president of the Canadian Association of Geographers. He was also a poet who wrote under the name James Wreford and was the recipient of Canada's top literary honor,the Governor General's Award,for his poetry.
Myriam S. Denov is a Canadian scholar and child advocate. She is a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Children,Families,and Armed Conflict at McGill University. Denov is a Trudeau Foundation Fellow and a Member of the Royal Society of Canada's College of New Scholars,Artists,and Scientists.
Suzanne Michelle Driedger is a Métis Canadian health scientist. She is a Professor at the University of Manitoba College of Medicine and former Canada Research Chair in Environment and Health Risk Communications. In 2023,Driedger was named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada for her research in public health risk communication.
