H. William DeWeese is an American politician who is a former member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. A member of the Democratic Party,DeWeese served as the 135th Speaker of the Pennsylvania House from 1993 to 1994. After five years of investigation by Republican State Attorney General Tom Corbett,he was indicted in December 2009 on six charges of conflict of interest,theft and criminal conspiracy on accusations that two members of his staff used state resources to campaign for political office. The trial began January 23,2010. He was re-elected in 2010 despite the charges,but was convicted of five of the six felony charges on February 6,2012.

Pennsylvania has been considered a swing state throughout its entire history as it only voted for the nationwide loser on only 10 occasions. Meaning it has voted for the national winner 83% of the time,as of 2020. Although,it generally supported Republicans between the Civil War and New Deal eras,as it voted Republican in every election between 1860 and 1932,except for 1912,when the Republican vote was split. Even then,the state's strong Republican ties meant that it backed Republican-turned-Progressive Theodore Roosevelt. The state backed a Democrat in 1936 for the first time since 1856. Pennsylvania generally leaned Democratic since the 1990s,as it backed the Democratic presidential candidate in every election since 1992 except in 2016,when it was won by Republican candidate Donald Trump with a plurality.
In 2007,Pennsylvania Attorney General Republican Tom Corbett began investigating $3.8 million in public bonuses which were paid to state legislative staffers in the Pennsylvania General Assembly to work on party politics and campaigns. While the bonuses themselves are not illegal,state law forbids state employees from performing campaign work while on the job and forbids payment for campaign work out of taxpayer funds.

Kevin J. Boyle is an American politician serving as a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and current minority Chairman of the PA House State Government Committee. He is the state Representative from Pennsylvania House District 172,which covers parts of Northeast Philadelphia. Boyle was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2010 when he ran against 32-year incumbent and former Speaker of the Pennsylvania House John Perzel. The 2022 Pennsylvania gubernatorial election was held on November 8,2022,to elect the governor of Pennsylvania and lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania. Democratic state attorney general Josh Shapiro defeated Republican state senator Doug Mastriano in a landslide victory to succeed term-limited incumbent Democratic governor Tom Wolf. Primaries were held on May 17,2022. Shapiro won the Democratic nomination after running unopposed and Mastriano won the Republican nomination with 44% of the vote. Mastriano's nomination drew attention due to his far-right political views.
The 2022 United States House of Representatives elections in Pennsylvania were held on November 8,2022,to elect representatives for the seventeen seats in Pennsylvania.
The 2022 elections for the Pennsylvania State Senate were held on November 8,with 25 of 50 districts being contested. The term of office for those elected in 2022 will begin when the Senate convenes in January 2023. Pennsylvania State Senators are elected for four-year terms,with half of the seats up for election every two years. The election coincided with the 2022 United States Senate election in Pennsylvania,United States House of Representatives elections,and the entirety of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
The 2023 Pennsylvania elections will take place on November 7,2023,to fill judicial positions,allow judicial retention votes,and fill numerous county,local and municipal offices,the most prominent being the Mayor of Philadelphia. The necessary primary elections will be held on May 16,2023. In addition,special elections for legislative vacancies could be held at various times in 2023.
