Jon Solomon

Jon Solomon (born April 19, 1973) is an American radio DJ. He has been the host of "Jon Solomon's Annual 25-Hour Holiday Radio Show" at WPRB in Princeton, New Jersey, since 1988, when he was fifteen years old. [1]

Solomon's weekly three-hour radio program broadcasts on Wednesdays on WPRB. Each week's show features a live performance, and more than 200 bands have appeared on this show since 2001. Philebrity called Solomon "the closest thing the Philly indie rock scene has to a John Peel". [2]

Solomon lives in the Lawrenceville section of Lawrence Township, Mercer County, New Jersey. [3]

Record labels

One of Solomon's record labels, My Pal God Records, put out recordings by A Minor Forest, Bitter Bitter Weeks, Del Rey, The Embarrassment, Eyeball Skeleton, Ex Models, The French Kicks, Paul Newman, Silkworm, TW Walsh, Joel R.L. Phelps, Dianogah, and Emperor Penguin. [4] Comedy Minus One is Solomon's current record label which has released albums by Bottomless Pit, The Karl Hendricks Trio, Obits, Oxford Collapse, Silkworm, SAVAK and Tre Orsi. [5]

Other activities

Solomon hosted the Philadelphia City Paper podcast "Local Support", a program that featured the music of artists from the Delaware Valley, and was the founding editor of the Princeton Basketball News, a web site about the Princeton Tigers men's basketball team. [6]

It also derives funding through community underwriting contracts with local businesses. Almost all on-air staff and management are Princeton University alumni and students. Classical Discoveries is a live radio program hosted and produced by American pianist, musicologist and music educator, Marvin Rosen. The program airs on WPRB 103.3 FM, a commercial, non-profit, community-supported independent radio station. The 14,000 watt radio station, once part of Princeton University, broadcasts from Princeton, New Jersey, and is managed and hosted by Princeton University students, and community DJ’s like Rosen. WPRB with its strong signal can be heard in New Jersey, parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania and New York, as well as over the Internet at www.wprb.com.

Comedy Minus One is an independent record label based in Princeton, New Jersey. It was founded in 2007 by Jon Solomon. Comedy Minus One picks up where an earlier Solomon label - My Pal God Records - left off, but with a more focused remit. The label, which takes its name from the 1973 Albert Brooks record of the same name, has so far concentrated on the output of a small group of post-hardcore and noise rock bands, but has also provided a distribution outlet for some previous releases.

Nosferatu D2 were an indie rock band from Surrey, England. Although their years were short, the band would experience something of a posthumous renaissance on the strength of their shelved debut album being released by the fledgling Audio Antihero label. The album and the story of its release would be the subject of a number of BBC stories, while the album itself has received continued acclaim and airplay long after its release.

Snaildartha: The Story of Jerry the Christmas Snail - A Soul Jazz Extravaganza is a 2004 jazz and spoken-word holiday album. It was composed and produced by Chris Strouth, and performed by the Snaildartha 6 combo, which includes saxophonist George Cartwright of the jazz group Curlew and storyteller and comic Matt Fugate, who wrote the text with Strouth. The album retells the story of Buddha through a small snail, Jerry the Christmas Snail, who achieves enlightenment after meeting and having adventures with other Christmas-themed animals on a pilgrimage to the North Pole, eventually meeting and bonding with Santa Claus. The title is a pun on the Buddha's birth name, Siddhartha.
