Baron Jonas von Essen (born 24 April 1991) is a Swedish, two-time world memory champion. [1] He was a memory sports player from 2012 to 2015. [2] In April 2019 he co-founded memoryOS, an ed-tech startup developing memory improvement software. [3]
He was the third place (behind winner Johannes Mallow and runner-up Simon Reinhard) in the 21st World Memory Championships in December 2012. He won the 22nd World Memory Championships in December 2013, and 24th World Memory Championships in December 2014. [4]
On 12 March 2016, he recalled correctly 13,208 digits of memorized pi for 4 hours and 40 minutes according to the Pi World Ranking List. This was a Swedish record until 2019, when it was beaten by Henrik Lilliestråle. [5]
In the spring of 2018, he participated in TV4's Talang. In his audition, he memorized the first names of all 500 people in the audience, which led to David Batra giving him his golden buzzer and thus sending him on directly to the final. [6]
On 7 March 2020, he recalled 24,063 digits of pi, setting a new personal, Swedish, and European record. [5] His aim was to recall the first 100,000 digits but he made a mistake on the 24,064th. Three days later he became the first person ever to pass the "Olympus Mons of Memory Tests", being tested on samples from the first 100,000 digits. A random sequence of nine digits were read out and Jonas recalled the nine digits preceding and following these. This was repeated 50 times in a row without error to complete the challenge. [7]
In the winter of 2023, he participated in TV4's Postkodmiljonären. He answered the final question correctly and won 1,000,000 kronor in the show.
He is a member of the Swedish noble Essen family.

Peter "Peppe" Eng, is a Swedish sports journalist and television presenter working for TV4. For many years he was the presenter for TV4's sports shows Sporten and Tipslördag along with Billy Lansdowne and Peter Antoine. Postkodmiljonären is a Swedish game show based on the original British format of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. The show debuted on 26 August 2005 and is hosted by Rickard Sjöberg. He studied successfully Communication Technology at the Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg and finalized his PhD thesis in 2016 at the University of Duisburg-Essen. He also works as a mind coach and scientific author.

Nelson also runs Climb 4 Memory - a nonprofit which "aims to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer's disease research through mountain climbs around the world."
The USA Memory Championship is an annual competition that took place every spring in New York City until 2016, and is currently held in Orlando, Florida, after an online qualifier. It was founded by Tony Dottino, President of Dottino Consulting Group, Inc., and Marshall Tarley in 1997. Designed to test the limits of the human brain, the USA Memory Championship is an organized competition in which Memory Athletes (MAs) attempt to memorize as much information as possible in events such as Names and Faces, Cards, Random Numbers, Images, and guest information at a fictional "Tea Party". Since 2018, there is also often an event called Long-Term Memory in which the MAs are given reams of data a month in advance about a wide variety of subjects such as the Period Table of the Elements, Space Shuttle missions, NFL Hall-of-Famers, etc. Participation is open to US citizens who are at least 12 years of age. The competition currently consists of 9 total events, 5 of which are online qualifying events, while the last four events are held at a live event to determine the champion.

She first rose to prominence in memory sports in 2014 by winning the team gold medal as well as first place in names and faces at the World Memory Championships 2014 in Haikou, China during her first year of memory training.
