Papua New Guinea,officially the Independent State of Papua New Guinea,is a country in Oceania that comprises the eastern half of the island of New Guinea and its offshore islands in Melanesia. It shares its only land border with Indonesia to the west and it is directly adjacent to Australia to the south and the Solomon Islands to the east. Its capital,located along its southeastern coast,is Port Moresby. The country is the world's third largest island country,with an area of 462,840 km2 (178,700 sq mi).

The country takes its name from the wider area of the Solomon Islands archipelago,which is a collection of Melanesian islands that also includes the Autonomous Region of Bougainville,but excludes the Santa Cruz Islands.
Solomon Sunaone Mamaloni was a Solomon Islands politician. He was the first chief minister of the islands,and later served as the prime minister for three spells in the 1980s and 1990s.

Gordon Darcy Lilo is a Solomon Islander politician who served as the prime minister of Solomon Islands from 16 November 2011 to 9 December 2014. He was a member of the National Parliament of the Solomon Islands,representing the Gizo/Kolombangara constituency spanning Gizo and the island of Kolombangara in Western Province. Lilo served as the Minister of Finance of the Solomon Islands from 2006 to 2007 and from 2010 to 2011.

Solomon Islands no longer has official diplomatic ties with Taiwan (ROC) due to the One-China policy since 2020.
