Judith Frieda Lina Herzberg (born 4 November 1934) is a Dutch poet and writer.

Life and work

Judith Herzberg is the daughter of lawyer and writer Abel Herzberg. [1] During World War II Herzberg went into hiding on various locations. Since 1983 Herzberg lives alternately in the Netherlands and Israel. [1] She mainly writes poems and plays, and also works on films. Herzberg debuted in 1961 as a poet in the weekly Vrij Nederland . Two years later, she published her first poetry collection, Zeepost. [2] She also wrote the plays Leedvermaak , Charlotte and Rijgdraad , which were made into films by Frans Weisz. Charlotte is about the painter Charlotte Salomon who was murdered in Auschwitz. [3] In 1997 Herzberg received the P. C. Hooft Award for her entire oeuvre. [2]

Patrick Conrad

Patrick Conrad is a Flemish poet, screenwriter and novelist, and one of the founders of The Pink Poets. He is also working as a painter and had two retrospective exhibitions of his work: in 1975 and 2005. He lives in Provence, in the south of France.

The P.C. Hooft Award is a Dutch language literary lifetime achievement award named after 17th Century Dutch poet and playwright Pieter Corneliszoon Hooft.

Gerrit Komrij Dutch writer

Gerrit Jan Komrij was a Dutch poet, novelist, translator, critic, polemic journalist and playwright. He rose to prominence in the early 1970s writing poetry that sharply contrasted with the free-form poetry of his contemporaries. He acquired a reputation for his prose in the late 1970s, writing acerbic essays and columns often critical of writers, television programs, and politicians. As a literary critic and especially as an anthologist he had a formative influence on Dutch literature: his 1979 anthology of Dutch poetry of the 19th and 20th centuries reformed the canon, and was followed by anthologies of Dutch poetry of the 17th and 18th centuries, of Afrikaans poetry, and of children's poetry. Those anthologies and a steady stream of prose and poetry publications solidified his reputation as one of the country's leading writers and critics; he was awarded the highest literary awards including the P. C. Hooft Award (1993), and from 2000 to 2004 he was the Dutch Dichter des Vaderlands. Komrij died in 2012 at age 68.

J. C. Bloem Dutch poet and essayist

Jakobus Cornelis (Jacques) Bloem was a Dutch poet and essayist. Between 1921 and 1958 he published fourteen volumes of poetry. In 1949 he won the Constantijn Huygensprijs, one of the country's highest literary awards, and in 1952 the P. C. Hooft Award for his literary oeuvre. In 1965, in rapidly declining health, he was awarded the highest Dutch-language literary award, the Prijs der Nederlandse Letteren. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature.

André Demedts Belgian poet, writer and politician (1906–1992)

André Demedts was a Belgian Flemish writer and teacher. He has published works in many genres, all in Dutch. In 1962 he received the Prijs voor Letterkunde van de Vlaamse Provincies for his work De levenden en de doden. In 1976 he received the award in honour of his life-time career. In 1990 he has received the Award "Driejaarlijkse Staatsprijs voor literatuur" to honour his career as a writer. In 1970 the award André Demedtsprijs was established to reward persons engaged in the cause of the large Dutch/Flemish cultural development with a main purpose to integrate and entangle cultural activities in the Netherlands, Flanders and South Africa.
