Julie Carter (born 1965) was a New Zealand netball player who represented her country on 50 occasions, becoming its captain in 1992.

Netball career

Julie Carter was born on 27 November 1965. She initially played club netball for Waikato, moving to the Wellington PIC team in 1990. She was first selected for the Silver Ferns, the New Zealand national netball team, in 1986, playing her first game against Jamaica. She did not play for the national team in 1987 but became a regular between 1988 and 1993. Towards the end of her time with the Silver Ferns she was captain, leading the team to 10 wins in 11 outings. She represented her country at the 1990 Commonwealth Games, held in Auckland, New Zealand, when a demonstration match was held between Australia and New Zealand, prior to netball becoming a regular event at the Games, and at the 1991 World Netball Championships, which were held in Sydney, Australia, when New Zealand won a silver medal. Her last competitive game was in 2000, when she was playing for the Southern Sting, a club based in Invercargill in the south of the South Island of New Zealand. At the time she was living on Stewart Island off the south coast of the South Island. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Coaching

After retiring, Carter worked as a coach, including at Waimea College in Richmond on the South Island. [5]

Temepara Anne Bailey is a New Zealand international netball player of Samoan and Māori descent. She was a member of the Silver Ferns national squad in 1996, and from 2000–2011. George retired from international duties after the 2011 World Netball Championships in Singapore. She played domestic netball in the ANZ Championship as captain of the Northern Mystics. Since the inaugural season, George has taken part in every quarter for the Mystics. She retired from all netball in 2012.

She captained New Zealand when they won gold at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and again at the 2007 World Netball Championships. During the Coca-Cola Cup/National Bank Cup era, she played for Otago Rebels and Southern Sting. During the early ANZ Championship era, she captained Southern Steel. She was a member of six premiership winning teams – the 1998 Otago Rebels team and the 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2007 Southern Sting teams. In 2022, she was included on a list of the 25 best players to feature in netball leagues in New Zealand since 1998.

Leana de Bruin is a South African and New Zealand international netball player. De Bruin played 34 tests for South Africa before moving to New Zealand in 2000. She made her on-court debut for the Silver Ferns in 2003, and has gone on to represent New Zealand at the Commonwealth Games and Netball World Championships, playing in the goal defence and goal keeper positions. In 2009, she pulled out of the team due to pregnancy, before returning the following year.

Laura Robyn Langman is a retired New Zealand international netball player, who last played domestic netball for the Sunshine Coast Lightning in the Australian Super Netball league. Primarily a midcourt player, Langman is a former captain and vice-captain of the New Zealand national netball team. She is the most capped player in the history of the Silver Ferns, having overtaken Irene van Dyk's record of 145 test matches in October 2018.

Sheryl Scanlan, originally known as Sheryl Clarke, is a former netball international who has played for Samoa and New Zealand. She captained Samoa at the 1999 World Netball Championships. She was subsequently a member of the New Zealand teams that were gold medallists at the 2003 World Netball Championships and silver medallists at the 2002 Commonwealth Games and 2007 World Netball Championships. During the Coca-Cola Cup/National Bank Cup era, she played for Northern Force. During the ANZ Championship era, she played for Northern Mystics and Southern Steel. In 2022, she was included on a list of the 25 best players to feature in netball leagues in New Zealand since 1998.

Julie Seymour is a New Zealand netball coach, former international netball player and former representative middle distance runner. Seymour played for the New Zealand national netball team, the Silver Ferns, in 92 test matches spanning 16 years. During her international career she has competed at three Netball World Championships and two Commonwealth Games. She also captained the Silver Ferns in 2002 and again during the last two years of her international career. After two years in the ANZ Championship, Seymour announced her retirement from competitive netball in 2009. She subsequently took on a coaching role at the Canterbury Tactix as assistant coach.

Katrina Rore is a New Zealand international netball player. Rore is a previous captain of the New Zealand national netball team, the Silver Ferns, and plays for the Central Pulse in the ANZ Championship. Rore signed to the New South Wales swifts in the suncorp super netball league in the latter half of the 2018–2019 season following the netball World Cup.

Grace Kara is a New Zealand netball player of Samoan descent. Kara played in the National Bank Cup for the Auckland Diamonds from 2005 to 2007. She continued playing in Auckland for the Northern Mystics in the ANZ Championship, starting in 2008. She is the younger sister of fellow Mystics player Rachel Rasmussen and she is also the older sister of Ann-Helen Rasmussen.

Janine Southby Brown is a retired New Zealand netball player who then coached the national Silver Ferns netball team. She was also the coach of the Southern Steel in the ANZ Championship. Southby played for the Western Flyers in the National Bank Cup competition from 1997 to 2001, before transferring to the Dunedin-based Otago Rebels in 2002. In 2015, Southby was given the role as head coach for the New Zealand netball team the Silver Ferns. Southby had resigned on July 20, 2018, where the independent review found fault in Southby's coaching style.

Teresa Tairi is a former New Zealand international netball player. She has also coached netball for teams from the Cook Islands and in Australia.

Ana Noovao was an international netball player who captained the New Zealand team. She has since coached netball, including the Cook Islands national team.

Joan Hodson is a former international netball player for New Zealand who was part of New Zealand's winning team at the 1987 World Netball Championships. She represented her country on 35 occasions and went on the qualify as an international netball umpire.

Julie-Ann Coney is a former netball player who played for New Zealand on 37 occasions and was its 14th captain. She later became a television commentator on netball matches and a corporate hospitality organizer for sporting events.
