Julius Joseph Awome (born 1953) is a retired English boxer.

Boxing career

He represented England and won a gold medal in the -91 kg heavyweight division, at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. [1] [2]

Awome was the National Champion in 1978 after winning the prestigious ABA featherweight title, boxing out of Woking ABC. [3]

The host city was London, with the main venue at Wembley Park, although the track cycling events were in Manchester. Seventeen national teams took part, including the Irish Free State.

John Conteh British boxer

John Anthony Conteh, is a British former professional boxer who competed from 1971 to 1980. He held the WBC light-heavyweight title from 1974 to 1978, and regionally the European, British and Commonwealth titles between 1973 and 1974. As an amateur, he represented England and won a gold medal in the middleweight division at the 1970 British Commonwealth Games.
