Jwan Yosef (born 6 September 1984) is a Syrian-born Swedish painter and artist of Kurdish and Armenian heritage. He specializes in plastic arts and is based in London, England. [2] [3]
Yosef was born in Syria, [4] to a Kurdish father and an Armenian mother. [5] His family immigrated to Sweden when he was two years old, [6] and later he studied painting in Pernby School of Painting in Stockholm between 2004 and 2006, then moved to Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design, Stockholm. [7]
Yosef has taken part in a great number of art fairs and group exhibitions. He held two solo exhibitions in 2013 titled Painting about Sex, Flesh and Violence, lol at the DIVUS Gallery in London and High Notes, at the Galleri Anna Thulin, Stockholm. [8] [9] He participated in the Threadneedle Prize exhibition in 2013 and the BEERS Contemporary Award for Emerging Art both in 2013. In 2015, he exhibited at Galleri Bon with group exhibition There and Back Again with fellow Konstfack graduates Josef Bull, Petr Davydtchenko and Natasja Loutchko. [10] He is a founding member and studio holder at The Bomb Factory Art Foundation in Archway, North London. [11]
In April 2016, during the amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research gala in São Paulo, Brazil, Yosef publicly announced that he had been in a relationship with Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin. The couple married in 2017. [12] [13] On 31 December 2018, Martin and Yosef announced, via Instagram, the birth of their daughter, Lucia Martin-Yosef. [14] On 29 October 2019, Martin and Yosef announced the birth of their son, Renn Martin-Yosef. [15] [16] In July 2023, it was announced that Martin and Yosef had separated after six years of marriage. [17]
Enrique "Ricky" Martín Morales is a Puerto Rican singer and songwriter. He is known for his musical versatility, with his discography incorporating a wide variety of many elements, such as Latin pop, dance, reggaeton, salsa, and other genres. Born in San Juan, Martin began appearing in television commercials at age nine and began his musical career at twelve, as a member of Puerto Rican boy band Menudo. He began his solo career in 1991 while in Sony Music Mexico, gaining recognition in Latin America with the release of his first two studio albums, Ricky Martin (1991) and Me Amaras (1993), both of which were focused on ballads.
Konstfack, or University of Arts, Crafts and Design, is a university college for higher education in the area of art, crafts and design in Stockholm, Sweden.
Hilma af Klint was a Swedish artist and mystic whose paintings are considered among the first abstract works known in Western art history. A considerable body of her work predates the first purely abstract compositions by Kandinsky, Malevich and Mondrian. Widely cited as one of the most influential figures in the early cloud rap era, Yung Lean rose to prominence in 2013 with his song "Ginseng Strip 2002", which went viral on YouTube. The Bomb Factory Art Foundation is an artist-led foundation with exhibition space for contemporary art, based in Archway, Islington, London, England.
Moki Cherry was a Swedish interdisciplinary artist and designer who worked in textiles, fashion design, woodworks, painting, collage, ceramics and set design. Her practice traversed the worlds of art, music and theater with diverse influences such as Indian art and music, Tibetan Buddhism, fashion, traditional folk arts and dress, abstraction, cartoons and Pop art. From 1977 she split her time living between Tågarp, Sweden and Long Island City in New York, USA. Moki collaborated with her husband, the American jazz trumpeter, Don Cherry, throughout her lifetime – they performed in concerts as Organic Music, where her artworks were also displayed, and ran workshops for children. Her designs also appeared on Don's album covers and as costumes worn by him in concert.
