The Korean Broadcasting System is the national broadcaster of South Korea. Founded in 1927, it is one of the leading South Korean television and radio broadcasters.
In South Korea, there are a number of national television networks, the three largest of which are KBS, MBC, and SBS. Most of the major television studios are located on Yeouido and Sangam-dong, Seoul. South Korea became the fourth adopter in Asia when television broadcasting began on 12 May 1956 with the opening of HLKZ-TV, a commercially operated television station. HLKZ-TV was established by the RCA Distribution Company (KORCAD) in Seoul with 186–192 MHz, 100-watt output, and 525 scanning lines.

It is owned and operated by Weigel Broadcasting alongside Bellingham-licensed Univision affiliate KVOS-TV. The KBS Song Festival is an annual South Korean music show that airs on the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) at the end of every year. It first aired in 1965 as an awards show, but KBS discontinued the awards ceremony in 2006. It has continued since as a music festival without giving awards most years. However, awards were given in 2013.

The ABU TV Song Festival 2012 was the first annual edition of the ABU TV Song Festivals. The festival, which was non-competitive, took place in the KBS Concert Hall, located in the South Korean capital of Seoul and coincided with the 49th general assembly of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). Eleven countries confirmed their participation in the first edition of the competition.
Arirang Radio is an English-language South Korean television network based in Seoul and aimed at an overseas audience. It is operated by the Korea International Broadcasting Foundation and is financially supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The channel, which airs in 103 countries, aims to offer an extensive and informative view of Korea Peninsula affairs, as well as world issues from a global perspective.
KBS World is an Indonesian television channel owned by the Korean Broadcasting System and operated by Overseas Korean Television Network (OKTN), a subsidiary of Korindo Group. The station's target audience consists of Koreans in Indonesia, as well as Indonesian audience interested in Korean entertainment. The channel was Launched in September 2007 at Palapa C2 satellite. In 2010, it moved to Telkom 1, where it still remains. It shared the same schedule from the KBS World global feed, but with different advertisements and selected exclusive program which is available to Indonesian viewers.
