Kate Yeo (born 2001) is a youth climate activist from Singapore.

Climate

In 2018, Yeo started a campaign BYO Bottle SG to advocate against single-use plastics in Singapore. [1] The initiative has worked with 231 drink stalls and reached out to close to 10,000 people. [2] [3] She achieved 2nd Prize in the Goi Peace Foundation International Essay Contest for Young People for her essay titled “The Battle Against Plastic Pollution”. [4]

Yeo was one of the organisers of the We The Planet climate strikes for Earth Day 2020. [5] She then co-founded Re-Earth Initiative, an international youth-led NGO striving to make the climate movement more accessible to all. [6] She also helped to organise the Virtual Youth Environment Assembly, organised by the U.N. Environmental Programme’s youth constituency. [7] In April 2021, she was a panellist at the Othering & Belonging Summit, alongside writer and climate activist Naomi Klein and other youth advocates Tokata Iron Eyes, Xiye Bastida and Samia Dumbuya. [8]

Yeo attended the COP27 conference in Egypt in 2022 to look at how the international trade of carbon credits will be rolled out. [9] After the conference, she spoke about remaining "stubbornly hopeful". [10]

In 2023, she was named to the Eco-Business Youth A-List. She sees a need to "focus on what can be done locally" in order to drive genuine climate action. [11] Yeo has also actively spoken out on the need for stronger inclusion of Southeast Asian youths in the climate movement. [7]

COVID-19 Initiative

During the pandemic, Kate started an initiative to support local hawkers in Singapore. Her family purchased bulk orders of food and drinks which were given to residents at a halfway house. [12]

Samantha Louisa Ginn Yeo is a Singaporean breaststroke and medley swimmer. Competing in her first of three Southeast Asian Games at just 12 years of age, Yeo has represented her country at the long course and short course World Championships, the FINA World Cup, Asian Games, Asian Swimming Championships, Commonwealth Games, Youth Olympic Games and Asian Youth Games. In June 2014, Yeo was recruited to the Michigan Wolverines on a partial, performance-based, sports scholarship.

Green Africa Youth Organization (GAYO) is a youth-led advocacy group based in Ghana. It was founded in 2014 by Joshua Amponsem and Desmond Alugnoa. The group focuses on environmental sustainability and community improvement. GAYO aims is to inspire young people to participate in climate activism and foster climate leadership in Ghana. GAYO also provides environmental blogs. GAYO established the first Youth Climate Council in Africa to provide climate skills to young people when it launched the council in 2021 in Ghana.

Joshua Amponsem is a Ghanaian climate advocate and a co-founder of Green Africa Youth Organization (GAYO). He is the climate specialist at the Office of the UN Secretary General's Envoy on Youth. He is the Lead Author of Adapt for Our Future, the first-ever research paper on the role of youth in advancing climate adaptation. His career has been more focused on grassroots climate and waste management solutions while advancing youth engagement in resilience building, disaster risk reduction, and climate change adaptation at the international level.
