Keith Quinn (born 22 September 1988) [1] is a footballer who played for several League of Ireland clubs, including Shelbourne and Longford Town. A midfielder, he is the younger brother of Alan and Stephen Quinn. He was jailed in 2021 for drug trafficking.

Playing career

Along with his brother Stephen, Keith Quinn followed his eldest brother Alan to England when he transferred to Sheffield United. Having captained the youth team at Sheffield United, [2] he progressed to the reserve team. [3] In March 2009, Quinn was loaned to Central Coast Mariners in Australia's A League. However, the A League was not in season during Quinn's loan, and Quinn could not play in the Asian Champions League as he registered too late. [4] After failing to make a first team appearance for Sheffield United, he was released at the end of the 2008–09 season. [5]

Quinn returned to Ireland to continue his career with Leinster Senior League side Bluebell United,[ citation needed ] before signing professionally with League of Ireland club Sporting Fingal in January 2010. [1]

He signed for First Division side Waterford United in December 2010, to play for the 2011 season. [6]

He joined Monaghan United in the summer transfer window and made 13 appearances in all competitions, scoring 1 goal. [7] In December he agreed to stay on at the club in 2012. On 18 June 2012, the club announced their withdrawal from the League of Ireland and all of their playing staff were released by the club. [8]

In August 2012, Quinn signed for Cork City. [9] After just four league appearances for Cork, he signed for Longford Town in January 2013. [6] He was released by Longford after one season. His last League of Ireland club was Shelbourne, which he joined in February 2014. [6] He later returned to Bluebell United in the Leinster Senior League. [2]

Outside football

In August 2020, Quinn was arrested along with Bluebell United manager Andrew Noonan during an investigation into trafficking of heroin. [10] Quinn was convicted of trafficking in April 2021 and sentenced to seven and half years imprisonment, with three years suspended. [11] In December 2021, upon appeal from the state, Quinn's sentence was increased to eight years in jail with the last 18 months suspended. [12]

The winners of the competition will earn spots in both the second qualifying round of the 2012–13 UEFA Europa League and the 2012 Setanta Sports Cup.

In 2012 Shelbourne F.C. competed in the League of Ireland Premier Division. Shelbourne finished the season in 8th position and reached the semi-finals of the 2012 FAI Cup. The 2012 season marked the first time Shelbourne competed in the Premier Division since 2006, when as champions, they were demoted due to financial issues. Shelbourne gained promotion by finishing 2nd in the 2011 League of Ireland First Division.

The 2013 season was St. Patrick's Athletic F.C.'s 84th year in existence and their 62nd consecutive season in the League of Ireland. It was the second year that Liam Buckley was the team's manager, following replacing Pete Mahon in December 2011. St Pat's finished the season as the 2013 League of Ireland Premier Division champions. They were also Leinster Senior Cup runners up. They also competed in the UEFA Europa League, the FAI Cup, the Setanta Cup and the League of Ireland Cup.

The 2012 season was Dundalk's fourth successive season in the League of Ireland Premier Division following promotion in 2008. All together, it was the club's 86th season in League of Ireland football. The club was managed by Sean McCaffrey, who was in his first season in charge. The club also competed in the FAI Cup, League of Ireland Cup and the Leinster Senior Cup. The 2017 season was St. Patrick's Athletic F.C.'s 88th year in existence and was the Supersaint's 66th consecutive season in the top-flight of Irish football. It was the sixth year that Liam Buckley is the team's manager, following replacing Pete Mahon in December 2011. With the new change to the League of Ireland structure, 3 clubs were set to be relegated from the Premier Division, which has created an intense relegation between many clubs, including Pats' due to their lower budget than previous years following a poor 2016 season in which they finished 7th in the league, making 2017 the first year in 7 years without European football. The relegation battle went right down to the last day of the season, where Pat's secured the necessary point to stay up following a 1–1 draw away to Derry City.

The 2017 FAI Senior Challenge Cup was the 97th season of the knockout national Football competition of the Republic of Ireland. The winners of this season's cup earned a place in the 2018–19 Europa League and would have entered in the first qualifying round.

The 2021 Shelbourne F.C. season was the club's 126th season in existence and their first back in the League of Ireland First Division following relegation from the League of Ireland Premier Division at the end of 2020. Shelbourne won the First Division title and promotion to the Premier Division following a 1–0 win over Treaty United on 1 October 2021. Shelbourne competed in the FAI Cup, but the League of Ireland Cup was cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
