Kemiyondo Coutinho is a Ugandan playwright, actress and filmmaker based in Los Angeles. She started a music platform titled A Ka Dope aimed at giving new Uganda artists an audience. Her directorial debut short film Kyenvu won Best Narrative Short Film at Pan African Film Festival. [1] She was featured on CNN's African Voices for her influential work in the arts.
Coutinho was born in Kampala in Uganda to Ugandan parents Sheila Coutinho and Alex Coutinho. At the age of three weeks she moved to Swaziland (since 2018 renamed to Eswatini) where she was initially educated. [2] At thirteen she joined the United World College of Waterford Kamhlaba in 2001. She graduated in 2007 and went to Portland, Oregon to attend Lewis & Clark College to graduate with a double major in Theater and Communications. [3]
She got her Masters in Fine Arts at The American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T). [3]
In 2007 she wrote and acted in Jabulile! which was performed at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown. This play was later produced in Canada and in New York and Chicago. The play addressed the lack of opportunity open to Swazi women traders. Her second play, Kawuna…you’re it, also addressed this inequality in particular with regard to HIV/AIDS in 2012. [3]
In 2014 the weekly "Discover Uganda" TV Show was launched by the minister Honorable Maria Mutagamba and the Pearl Guide for NTV Uganda. [4] Coutinho has hosted a series of the travel show. [5]
In July 2015 she appeared "wonderfully" as Lady Torrance in Orpheus Descending by Tennessee Williams in Seattle. [6]
Coutinho is a theatre enthusiast and the founder and artistic director of the NUVO festival that addresses both social and artistic issues in Uganda. [5] NUVO stands for New Voices and it is intended to draw attention to the issue of HIV/Aids. [7]
Kemiyondo wrote, directed and starred in Kyenvu a film about miniskirt harassment in Uganda. She also started A Ka Dope, a musical platform geared at giving new faces in the music industry a stage. She was featured on CNN's African Voices in 2017 for her work in the arts. [8]
Health in Uganda refers to the health of the population of Uganda. The average life expectancy at birth of Uganda has increased from 59.9 years in 2013 to 63.4 years in 2019. This is lower than in any other country in the East African Community except Burundi. As of 2017, females had a life expectancy higher than their male counterparts of 69.2 versus 62.3. It is projected that by 2100, males in Uganda will have an expectancy of 74.5 and females 83.3. Uganda's population has steadily increased from 36.56 million in 2016 to an estimate of 42.46 in 2021. The fertility rate of Ugandan women slightly increased from an average of 6.89 babies per woman in the 1950s to about 7.12 in the 1970s before declining to an estimate 5.32 babies in 2019. This figure is higher than most world regions including South East Asia, Middle East and North Africa, Europe and Central Asia and America. The under-5-mortality-rate for Uganda has decreased from 191 deaths per 1000 live births in 1970 to 45.8 deaths per 1000 live births in 2019.

His major films include Bala Bala Sese, directed by Lukyamuzi Bashir with which Mukwaya is credited as the film's writer and producer. Gladys "G'dah" Oyenbot is a Ugandan actress, singer and producer professionally known by her mononym Oyenbot. She is known for playing Dorotia on Mpeke Town (2018), and as Beatrice on the award winning drama series Yat Madit Yat Madit (2016). In 2020 she starred in numerous films including a thriller film The Girl in the Yellow Jumper, in a legal drama film Kafa Coh, Family Tree, and Down Hill. Cindy Evelyn Magara Amooti is a Ugandan film director and academic. She serves as a Lecturer of Film Studies and Literature at Makerere University. She has directed and produced several movies since 2006, such as Fate (2006), Fair Play (2010), Windows of Hope (2011), A Book for Every Child (2012) and Breaking the Mesh (2013). She also lectured Film Studies at University of Sydney and at the University of Technology Sydney in Australia.
