Khalid bin Ali Al Humaidan (born 1955) is a Saudi intelligence officer. He is the director general of General Intelligence Directorate. [1] [2] He took over from the former chief Youssef bin Ali Al Idrissi in 2015. [3]
Khalid bin Ali Al Humaidan was born in Ha'il,a city in the Northern region of Saudi Arabia,in 1955.[ citation needed ] He studied criminal justice at Saginaw Valley State University in the United States.[ citation needed ]
Al Humaidan started his career by enrolling in the Saudi Military in 1982.[ citation needed ] He was in the army for over 20 years before he was appointed deputy head of the criminal investigation division in Saudi Arabia in 2011.[ citation needed ] After his appointment as deputy's head,he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general. In January 2015,he was appointed head of intelligence through a royal decree. Al Humaidan was also made a member of Saudi Arabia's Political and Security Affairs Council. [4] [5] The subject maintained communications with Mohammed Abdul Salam,the chief Houthi peace negotiator after talks were chilled by the Houthi attack of January 2017 and his deputy met with Hussein al-Ezzi in Amman later in the year. Ali Abdullah Saleh al-Ahmar was a Yemeni politician who served as the first President of Yemen,from Yemeni unification on 22 May 1990 to his resignation on 25 February 2012,following the Yemeni Revolution. The blockade of Yemen refers to a sea,land and air blockade on Yemen which started with the positioning of Saudi Arabian warships in Yemeni waters in 2015 with the Saudi Arabian-led intervention in Yemen. In November 2017,after a Houthi missile heading towards King Khalid International Airport was intercepted,the Saudi-led military coalition stated it would close all sea land and air ports to Yemen,but shortly began reopening them after criticism from the United Nations and over 20 aid groups and some humanitarian supplies were allowed into the country. In March 2021,Saudi Arabia denied the blockade continued,however,UN authorized ships continued to be delayed by Saudi warships.
On 2 October 2018,Jamal Khashoggi,a Saudi dissident journalist was killed by agents of the Saudi government at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul,Turkey. Khashoggi was ambushed and strangled by a 15-member squad of Saudi operatives. His body was dismembered and disposed of. The consulate had been secretly bugged by the Turkish government and Khashoggi's final moments were captured in audio recordings,transcripts of which were subsequently made public.
Youssef bin Ali Al Idrissi is a Saudi intelligence officer. He was appointed deputy intelligence chief in October 2012 replacing Abdulaziz bin Bandar in the post. Al Idrissi was named the director of the General Intelligence Directorate in April 2014. He was succeeded by Khalid bin Ali Al Humaidan in 2015.
