Gameplay

Kitaria Fables is an RPG, but does not have a class system, allowing the player to create a custom moveset. [2] In combat, one button is used to attack, one is used to dodge, and a third button is used to cast spells. [3] The player can upgrade their weapons and armor using materials obtained from killing monsters. The player can also farm, growing crops to restore health. [4] The game includes several accessories that provide the player with a stat increase when worn. [5] The game features a variety of areas, as well as many bosses, which respawn every in-game day. [2]

Plot

Peace is shattered after a Calamity, who ruled the land one hundred years ago but was vanquished, returns. [3] A cat named Nyanza must save everyone. [4]

Reception

Kitaria Fables received a 69/100 aggregate score on Metacritic, indicating "mixed or average reviews". [6] Screen Rant gave the game a 2.5 out of 5. [7] Kate Gray of Nintendo Life rated it 7.6 out of 10, positively comparing the game to Fantasy Life for the Nintendo 3DS. [2] Others have compared it to Stardew Valley and Rune Factory . [8] In his review for Push Square , Robert Ramsey praised the game's soundtrack and addictive gameplay, giving it a 7 out of 10. [9] The game also garnered a large amount of praise from Jeremy Peeples of Hardcore Gamer. [10]

Farm life sims are a subgenre of life simulation games which fuse social simulation, dating sim and farm simulation elements. The games generally feature a protagonist going out to a rural setting and taking upon a farm, oftentimes because of an inheritance from a deceased relative, or because of urban boredom. The player-character grows crops and raises livestock to make money, and can interact with a wide cast of characters who are inhabitants of the town, and work toward the main plot's objective, if one exists. The game plots often featured dying ghost towns that must be revitalized by the player's actions.
