Komenda (also known as Ekitakyi, [1] Akitekyi) [2] is a town located in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem-Municipal District of the Central Region of Ghana. [3] [4] [5] There is a concrete bridge linking British Komenda and Dutch Komenda. [6]

History

The land was initially Komeh Krom which was named after Komeh, a hunter from Techiman. He arrived in Kanka (Dutch Komenda) and went into agreement with the elders of the land. Later after he settled there, anytime someone was sent to Komeh Krom he/she would be cautioned "Kɔ ma nda" which means "If you go do not sleep". This became the Komenda which means "If you go Komeh Korm do not sleep". [7]

In 2020, the Paramount Queenmother of Komenda was Nana Adwoa Badu II. [8] In 2021, the Chief of Komenda was Nana Kojo Kru II. [9] In 2022, the acting Paramount Chief of Komenda was Nana Kwahin V. [10] In 2023, the Chief of Komenda was Nana Komeh VIII. [11]

On December 5, 2018, the Electoral commission chaired by Jean Adukwei Mensah reverted to the old logo showing the Coat of arms of Ghana and a ballot box showing the hand casting its votes, after the controversy over the new logo.

In several Akan nations of Ghana, the Omanhene is the title of the supreme traditional ruler ('king') in a region or a larger town. The omanhene is the central figure and institution of the nation. Officially, he has no function in the current Ghanaian political setup, but, has enormous influence on the people that constitute it. Today 'Hene' can be found in titles of other rulers in Ghanaian nations. For example, the chief of the Dagomba in the north of Ghana is known as the 'Dagombahene'.

Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta, is a Ghanaian investment banker who served as the Minister for Finance and Economic Planning in the cabinet of Nana Akufo-Addo. He was a co-founder of Databank Group, a Ghanaian financial services company, and served as executive chairman until 2012 when he resigned. He was nominated by President Nana Akufo-Addo on 10 January 2017 and assumed office on 27 January 2017 as finance minister. On February 14, 2024, he was relieved of his position as the finance minister of Ghana by Nana Akufo-Addo.

Owusu Afriyie Akoto is a Ghanaian agricultural economist and politician. He is a member of the New Patriotic Party and was a Member of Parliament for the Kwadaso Constituency from 2009 to 2017. He was the cabinet minister in the Nana Akufo-Addo administration and served as Minister of Food and Agriculture of Ghana. He resigned on 10 January 2023 to focus on his presidential ambition. He holds MSc and PHD Degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Cambridge, England.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Oti Region</span> Region of Ghana

The Oti Region is one of the six newly created regions of Ghana in December 2018. The region was carved out of the northern part of the Volta Region and will be in fulfillment of a campaign promise made by New Patriotic Party. Prior to the 2016 Ghanaian general election, the then candidate Nana Akufo-Addo declared that when elected, he would explore the possibility of creating new regions out of some of the existing regions in Ghana in order to bring government closer to citizens. The Region was inaugurated on May 14, 2019. It has Dambai as its Regional Capital. The people of Oti region have for more than 60 years always wanted to have a region of their own before its creation in 2018 by the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo led government in December 2018.

Sarah Adwoa Safo is a Ghanaian lawyer and politician. She is the New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament (2013–2020) for the Dome Kwabenya Constituency of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. She was the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection until 28 July 2022 when she was dismissed by Nana Akuffo Addo Danquah.

The presidency of Nana Akufo-Addo began on 7 January 2017. Following the 2016 Ghanaian general elections, Nana Akufo-Addo the flag-bearer of the New Patriotic Party, succeeded John Mahama as the 5th President of the Ghanaian Fourth Republic after winning by a landslide. He won a second term on 9 December 2020 in a tightly contested race against National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate and former president, John Mahama.

Della Russel Ocloo is a Ghanaian journalist, communications and media personality. Della is currently the reporter at Graphic Communications Limited in the Tema Municipality. She was also a convenor of a demonstration against the Nana Akufo-Addo's government named the 'FixTheCountry'.

Komenda Sugar Development Company Limited is a Ghanaian factory established in 1964 and its operations ground to a halt in the early 1990s. This was due to poor management and technical issues.

Fumbisi is a town in the Builsa South District in the Upper East Region of Ghana. The town is known for rice production. In 2019, the Paramount Chief of Fumbisi was Nab Clement Anyatuik Akanko II.

The Tema-Mpakadan Railway Line is a 96.7 km standard gauge railroad constructed from the Tema to Mpakadan to facilitate the movement of goods along the Eastern corridor of Ghana.

Anthony Henry Kwofie is a Ghanaian judge, an active justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana and president of the Association of Magistrates and Justices of Ghana.

Yaw Darko Asare is a Ghanaian jurist and an active justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana.
