Kondaveeti Venkatakavi is an Indian poet, scholar, and film writer from Andhra Pradesh. He is well known for writing dialogues in the movie Daana Veera Soora Karna.

Childhood

Venkata Kavi was born as Venkatayya to Narayana and Seshamma in the village of Vipparla in Guntur district. [1]

Education

He got primary education was from his scholarly father. He studied Sanskrit poetry and pancha kavyas under the guidance of Narikonda Nammalaraju, a poet from Gadwal. He later moved to Tenali and worked as assistant under Tripuraneni Ramaswamy Chowdary. He mastered Sriharsha Naishada under his uncle Yetukri Narasimhayya. He worked as assistant under Srimat Tirumala Mudhimalla Varadhacharya, who was working to teach Sanskrit to all sections of the people. He learned Sanskrit Vyakarana and Patanjali Bhashya from Kavi Ramanujacharya. He leaned Telugu Vyakarana from Duvvur Venkataramana Sastry. He moved to Vijayanagaram and studied the grammar under the Chinaseetarama Sastry. He later practiced Avadhanam under the guidance of Chellapilla Venkata Sastry. [2]

Career

Teacher

He worked as a Telugu scholar in the Board High School in Macherla from 1948 to 1952, and as Sanskrit lecturer in Ponnur oriental college for forty years from 1952. [3]

Poet

He started writing poetry at the age of 14 and wrote many books. In 1932, he wrote Karshaka Satakam about the problems of farmers. It was banned by the government. In 1946, he wrote Chennakesava Satakam. He wrote Divyasmrutulu remembering Vemana, Gurajada Apparao and other eminent Telugu personalities. He published a research work on Amuktamalyada of Krishna Devaraya. He wrote a book with rational thoughts on Melu Kolupu in 1942. [4]

He wrote a literary series with the name Nehru Charita. [5]

Daana Veera Soora Karna is a 1977 Indian Telugu-language Hindu mythological film co-written, produced and directed by N. T. Rama Rao under his banner, Ramakrishna Cine Studios. Based on the life of Karna from the Mahabharata, it stars Rama Rao in three roles: the title character, Duryodhana, and Krishna. It also stars Rao's sons Nandamuri Harikrishna and Nandamuri Balakrishna, who play the roles of Arjuna and Abhimanyu, respectively. Music for the film was composed by Pendyala Nageswara Rao.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Telugu literature</span> Body of works written in the Telugu language

Telugu literature is the body of works written in the Telugu language. It consists of poems, short stories, novels, plays, and song lyrics, among others. There is some indication that Telugu literature dates at least to the middle of the first millennium, the first extant works are from the 11th century when the Mahabharata was first translated to Telugu from Sanskrit by Nannaya. The language experienced a golden age under the patronage of the Vijayanagara king-poet Krishnadevaraya.

Ashtadiggajas(అష్టదిగ్గజులు) is the collective title given to the eight Telugu scholars and poets in the court of Emperor Krishnadevaraya who ruled the Vijayanagara Empire from 1509 until his death in 1529. During his reign, Telugu literature and culture reached its zenith. In his court, eight poets were regarded as the eight pillars of his literary assembly. The age of Ashtadiggajas is called Prabandha Age. All of the Ashtadiggajas had composed at least one Prabandha Kavyamu and it was Ashtadiggajas who gave Prabandha its present form. Most of the Ashtadiggajas are from southern part of present-day Andhra Pradesh state (Rayalaseema) and Ashtadiggajas, Allasani Peddana, Dhurjati, Nandi Thimmana, Madayyagari Mallana and Ayyalaraju Ramabhadrudu are from the Rayalaseema. Pandit Ramakrishna hailed from the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. Ramarajabhushanudu was another Ashtadiggaja.

Vijayanagara literature was produced in the Vijayanagara Empire during a golden age of literature in South India in general. The rulers patronised Kannada, Telugu, Sanskrit and Tamil scholars who wrote in the Jain, Virashaiva and Vaishnava traditions. Balijepalli Lakshmikantha Kavi was an Indian playwright, novelist, poet, screenwriter, actor and freedom fighter. He is remembered for the magnum opus Satya Harischandriyamu, a play written in 1924, and for his works in Telugu cinema.

Veturi Prabhakara Sastri was a Sanskrit and Telugu scholar, editor, translator and historian. He was born in the town of Pedakallepalli in the Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh. He was known for deciphering a few thousand of Annamayya's composition during his tenure at the Devasthanam Oriental Institute. He is also recognized for his scholarship on Telugu poet Srinatha's work. Veturi was involved in researching lost texts and forgotten literature, and he is regarded for his enlightened and liberal scholarship that was free of literary or religious prejudices.

<i>Sri Krishna Rayabaram</i>

Sri Krishna Rayabaram is a popular Telugu drama written by Tirupati Venkata Kavulu in the early 20th century. It was made into a Telugu film in 1960. Many actors and companies have staged this production throughout Andhra Pradesh, India, and abroad.

Tripuraribhatla Ramakrishna Sastry or T. Ramakrishna Sastry was a famous stage and film actor in the early period of Telugu cinema. He was famous in portraying the role of Narada in about 12 films.

Duvvuri Venkata Ramana Shastri (1897–1972), popularly known as the Kalaprapurna Duvvuri, was a Telugu - Sanskrit scholar of the 20th century. He studied Sanskrit and worked as Telugu Lecturer for more than six decades. He wrote Ramaneeyam a book on Telugu grammar and he translated Pingarli Surana kalapurnodayam to Telugu as "Madhura Lalasa". In addition he wrote an autobiography. His autobiography was focused on many teachers and giants from Telugu literature rather than his birth and family details. He held high standards for good hand writing.

<i>Tandra Paparayudu</i> (film) 1986 Indian film

Tandra Paparayudu is a 1986 Indian Telugu-language biographical war film directed by Dasari Narayana Rao and produced by U. Suryanarayana Raju. The film stars Krishnam Raju, Jaya Prada, Jayasudha, Sumalatha, Pran and Mohan Babu. It is based on the life of 18th century warrior Tandra Paparayudu, the General of Bobbili, and General Bussy. Made on a big-budget of 1.5 crore, Tandra Paparayudu was a major box-office failure. The film was featured at the 11th International Film Festival of India. It won two Nandi Awards.

Yadlapati Venkata Rao was an Indian politician from the state of Andhra Pradesh. Rao served as the Minister for Agriculture, Law and Planning in the united Andhra Pradesh from 1978 to 1980. He was elected thrice to the Vemuru Assembly constituency of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), and served as the Member of Parliament (MP) in Rajya Sabha representing Andhra Pradesh between 1998 and 2004.

Mulugu Papayaradhya, also known as Mulugu Papayya and Sangameswara Sastry, (1778–1852) was a Telugu and Sanskrit scholar, preceptor, translator, and writer, known for his translation of the Devi Bhagavatam from Sanskrit into Telugu and for being the preceptor and court poet of the Raja of Amaravati, Vasireddy Venkatadri Nayudu. Mulugu Papayaradhya was born to Viranaradhya, a prominent Veera Shaiva acharya, and Akkamba. He lived in Amaravati, now in the Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh. He is known to have written more than a hundred works in Telugu and Sanskrit. He was titled as Abhinava Kalidasa. He was a Veera Shaivite acharya (preceptor).

Mahakavi Dasu Sriramulu (1846–1908) was an Indian scholar, poet, orator, author, astrologer, avadhani, translator, and social reformer. He was a lawyer by profession. He was a child prodigy. He had no formal tutelage in these diverse arts – his knowledge was gained through his personal studies and association with scholars and artists.
