The korfball competition at the 2022 World Games took place in July 2022, [1] in Birmingham in United States, at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex. Originally scheduled to take place in July 2021, the Games were rescheduled for July 2022 as a result of the 2020 Summer Olympics postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [2]

Qualification

A total of 8 teams will compete in the korfball event at the 2022 World Games. [3]

The 2019 IKF World Korfball Championship (IKF WKC) acted as the qualification tournament. Eight best teams qualified for the World Games, because top 8 consisted of participants of at least four different continents.

The 11th IKF World Korfball Championship was held in August 2019 in Durban, South Africa and won by the Netherlands. The International Korfball Federation awarded the hosting rights for the tournament to South Africa on 7 November 2015, ahead of the bid by New Zealand.

The 12th IKF World Korfball Championship will be held in 2023 in Taipei, Taiwan. The International Korfball Federation awarded the hosting rights for the tournament to Taiwan on 9 August 2019, ahead of the bids of Czech Republic and the Netherlands. The Netherlands was awarded the hosting rights for the 2027 IKF World Korfball Championship instead.

The korfball event at the 2001 World Games in Akita, Japan took place between the 18th and the 22nd of August. A total of 96 athletes from 6 national teams entered the competition. The competition took place in Aspal Gymnasium.

Originally scheduled to take place in July 2021, the Games were rescheduled for July 2022 as a result of the 2020 Summer Olympics postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Women's tournament was played as official event and men's tournament as invitational event. This was the first time, when both men's and women's field lacrosse were played in a six-a-side format. This was also an absolute debut of the men's tournament in World Games programme, because in 2017 women's played for the first time in the history of this discipline in the World Games. The games were played in a Sixes format, with both teams having six players on the field. The game was played in eight-minute quarters and emphasizes speed and efficiency.

The 2022 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships were held in Liverpool, United Kingdom at the Liverpool Arena, from 29 October to 6 November 2022. The United Kingdom previously hosted this event in 1993 (Birmingham), 2009 (London) and 2015 (Glasgow).

The 2021 European Korfball A-Championship will be held in Belgium from 25 to 30 October 2021. Matches will be played in Antwerp. It will be the second edition where the European Korfball Championship is split into an A-Championship and a B-Championship. The tournament will serve as a qualifier for the 2023 IKF World Korfball Championship.
