Kyron Drones (born July 24, 2003) [1] is an American football quarterback who plays for the Virginia Tech Hokies. He previously played for the Baylor Bears.
Drones was born in Pearland, Texas and attended Shadow Creek High School. In his high school career, Drones completed 314 of his 559 pass attempts for 5,257 yards and 71 touchdowns with 17 interceptions. Drones also rushed for 1,300 yards and 23 touchdowns. [3] Drones committed to play college football at the Baylor University over other schools such as Auburn, Ole Miss, TCU, and Pittsburgh. [4] [5]
In his first season with Baylor, Drones was redshirted and saw no in-game action. In Drones's second season with Baylor in 2022, he threw for 219 yards and a touchdown with an interception while also rushing for 49 yards and 2 touchdowns. [6] At the conclusion of the 2022 season, Drones decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal. [7] [8]
Drones transferred to Virginia Tech before the 2023 season. [9] [10] Drones started the first game of his career in week three of the season, completing 19 of his 32 passes for 190 yards and a touchdown with an interception while also rushing 22 times for 74 yards as the Hokies fell to Rutgers. [11] In the following week, Drones again got the start, and he went on to complete 19 of his 35 passing attempts for 160 yards while also rushing for 75 yards and two touchdowns in Virginia Tech's loss to Marshall. Tyrod Diallo Taylor is an American football quarterback for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for Virginia Tech, leading the Hokies to the 2009 Orange Bowl as a sophomore and 2011 Orange Bowl during his senior year.
