L.I.F.E (an acronym for Leaving an Impact for Eternity) is the debut studio album by Nigerian singer Burna Boy. It was released on August 12,2013,by Aristokrat Records. [1] The album serves as the follow-up to his second mixtape,Burn Identity (2011),and sold 40,000 copies on the first day of its release. Aristokrat Records later sold the album's marketing rights to Uba Pacific for ₦10 million. [2] L.I.F.E was supported by the singles "Like to Party","Tonight","Always Love You","Run My Race" and "Yawa Dey". The album was produced entirely by Leriq and features guest appearances from 2face Idibia,M.I,Timaya,Olamide,Reminisce and Wizkid. [3]
Nigerian Entertainment Today ranked L.I.F.E 10th on its list of the 12th Best Albums of 2013. [4] The album's music draws heavily from the music of Fela Kuti,King Sunny Ade and Bob Marley. L.I.F.E received generally positive reviews from music critics,who applauded its production. It was nominated for Best Album of the Year at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards,and peaked at number 7 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart in August 2013. [5]
L.I.F.E was mixed and mastered by Leriq at Solid Sound Studios in Ikota,Lagos. [6] In an interview with BellaNaija,Burna Boy said he named the album L.I.F.E in order to leave a lasting impact and showcase the realism of his life. [7] In another interview with Toolz on NdaniTV,he described the album as a journey through life. [8]
On July 17,2013,Aristokrat Records unveiled the album's cover art to the general public. Peedi Picasso designed the cover art for both the standard and deluxe edition. Burna Boy shares the cover art with Fela Kuti,King,Sunny Ade and Bob Marley. In a press release,the record label said the album would be released in three installments (street,original and deluxe) and that its release would be accompanied by a release party,CD signatures and a tour. [9] In August 2013,Burna Boy held an album listening party at Cafe Vanessa in Victoria Island. [10] In September 2013,he launched a concert titled "The Burna Boy Experience" to promote the album in the cities of Accra and Sekondi-Takoradi. [11]
L.I.F.E is a ragga,dancehall,afrobeat and fuji album,which draws heavily from the music of Fela Anikulapo Kuti,King Sunny Ade and Bob Marley. [12] [13] "No No No" is a fusion of the aforementioned genres. The groovy highlife track "Say So" contains a saxophone riff. [12] "Na so E Suppose Be" is an ode to the coolness of 1990s music. [12] "Yawa Dey" is a tribute to the galala sound of several ragga artists from Ajegunle,including Daddy Showkey and Baba Fryo. [13] In "Run My Race",Burna Boy impersonates Fela Kuti over an electro-Afrobeat instrumental. [12]
In "Boom Boom Boom",he samples a line from Fela Kuti's "Army Arrangement". The hook of "Smooth Sailing" consists of a Yoruba fairy tale. On the closing track "Outro:Remember Me",Burna Boy reiterates the album's themes to listeners. [12] [13]
The album's lead single,"Like to Party",was released on May 30,2012. The music video for the song was filmed in Lagos by Adasa Cookey. [14] On September 24,2012,Burna Boy released the album's second single "Tonight",which was recorded in English,Yoruba and Igbo. [15] The music video for "Tonight" was directed by Mex and uploaded to YouTube at a total length of 4 minutes and 4 seconds. [16] It was nominated for Most Gifted Newcomer Video at the 2013 Channel O Music Video Awards. [17]
The album's third single "Always Love You",which was released on March 6,2013,is a pop song with influences from house and dance music. [18] "Run My Race" was released as the album's fourth single;it was recorded in English,Yoruba,and Nigerian Pidgin. [19] The music video for "Run My Race" was recorded by Clarence Peters at the New Afrika Shrine. [20] The album's fifth single,"Yawa Dey",was released on August 5,2013. Its music video was also directed by Peters and features various light-hearted scenes of posse dancing and beach soccer. A hyperrealist color scheme was used to shoot the video. [21]

L.I.F.E received positive reviews from music critics. Reviewing for Nigerian Entertainment Today ,Ayomide Tayo praised the album's production and commended Leriq for not making it sound repetitive. In contrast,Tayo said the record "lacks a knock out hit to seal the stateliness." [12] Wilfred Okiche of YNaija said the album "avoids the pitfalls of monotony and boredom that could easily have befallen the disc but the overall sound is still a tad unsatisfying,like there is stuff Burna Boy is holding back." [13]
Writing for the website Jaguda.com,Ayo Alloh rated the album 8.5 out of 10,saying it was never monotonous despite being solely produced. [23] In a review for Hip Hop World Magazine ,Enemigin Neye awarded the album 4 stars out of 5,acknowledging it for "showing the everyday improvement in the sound called Nigerian music". [22] Neye "believes Burna Boy is here to stay and believes the album is definitely one to remember." [22]
L.I.F.E was nominated for Best Album of the Year at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. [24] The album was also nominated for Best R&B/Pop Album and Album of the Year at The Headies 2014. [25]
The album was released in Nigeria and reportedly sold 40,000 copies on the first day of its release. The marketing rights for the album were later sold to Uba Pacific for ₦10 million. [2]

Fela Aníkúlápó Kútì, also famously known as Abàmì Ẹ̀dá, was a Nigerian musician, bandleader, composer, political activist, and Pan-Africanist. He is regarded as the King of Afrobeat, a Nigerian music genre that combines West African music with African-American funk and jazz. At the height of his popularity, he was referred to as one of Africa's most "challenging and charismatic music performers". AllMusic described him as "a musical and sociopolitical voice" of international significance.
Panshak Henry Zamani better known as Ice Prince Zamani or just Ice Prince, is a Nigerian rapper, singer and songwriter. He rose to fame after releasing "Oleku", one of Nigeria's most remixed songs of all time. He won the 2009 Hennessy Artistry Club Tour. His debut studio album Everybody Loves Ice Prince was released in 2011. It was supported by three singles: "Oleku", "Superstar" and "Juju". In 2013, Ice Prince released Fire of Zamani as his second studio album. The album contained the singles "Aboki", "More", "Gimme Dat" and "I Swear". On 1 July 2015, Ice Prince was announced as the vice president of Chocolate City. He held the position until he left the label in 2016. He has collaborated with top African rappers like Navio of Uganda, Khaligraph Jones of Kenya, AKA of South Africa, Sarkodie of Ghana among others.
Jesse Garba Abaga, known professionally as Jesse Jagz, is a Nigerian rapper, record producer, and songwriter. He signed a record deal with Chocolate City in 2010 and released his debut studio album Jag of All Tradez that same year. He voluntarily exited the Chocolate City deal in 2013 and announced the launch of his independent label, Jagz Nation. Jagz released his second studio album Jagz Nation, Vol. 1: Thy Nation Come in 2013; it included singles such as "Redemption", "Bad Girl", "Sex & Scotch" and "God on the Mic". His third studio album, Jagz Nation, Vol. 2: Royal Niger Company, was released in 2014. He returned to Chocolate City in 2015 but left the label again prior to releasing his fourth studio album Odysseus in 2017. In May 2020, he released a 5-track EP titled Garba.
Elohor Eva Alordiah, who is better known as Eva Alordiah or simply Eva, is a Nigerian rapper, make-up artist, fashion designer and entrepreneur. A native of Delta State, Eva was born and raised in Abuja, and is regarded as one of the best female rappers in Nigeria. Her contributions to the Nigerian music industry have earned her several accolades, including one Nigeria Entertainment Award, one Eloy Award, and one YEM award. Her debut extended play, Gigo , was released for free digital download on 20 November 2011. Eva is the owner of makeupByOrsela, a company that specializes in makeup services. She released her eponymous second extended play, Eva, in November 2014. Her debut studio album, 1960, was released in September 2016.
The discography of Wizkid, a Nigerian Afrobeats singer, consists of five studio albums, two EPs, fifty-three singles, forty-four promotional singles, sixteen guest appearances, six cameo appearances and thirty-five music videos. Wizkid started his music career at age 11, releasing a seven-track collaborative album with Glorious Five entitled Lil Prinz. Wizkid garnered notoriety when he collaborated with Naeto C, Ikechukwu, M.I and Kel. He signed a record deal with Empire Mates Entertainment in 2009. From 2009 through 2011, Wizkid worked on materials for his debut album Superstar (2011). Superstar was supported by the singles "Love My Baby", "Pakurumo", "Tease Me/Bad Guys", "Don't Dull" and "Holla at Your Boy".
Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, known by his stage name Iyanya, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He rose to fame after winning the first season of Project Fame West Africa, and is best known for his hit single "Kukere". He released his debut studio album My Story in 2009; it was supported by the singles "No Time" and "Love Truly". Iyanya co-founded the record label Made Men Music Group with Ubi Franklin in 2011. His second studio album, titled Desire, was released in February 2013. It supported by the singles "Kukere", "Ur Waist", "Flavour", "Sexy Mama", and "Jombolo". He won the Artist of the Year award at The Headies 2013. In October 2016, Iyanya announced on Instagram that he signed a record deal with Mavin Records. Few months prior, he signed a management deal with Temple Management Company. He first announced his intentions to leave Made Men Music Group in July 2016. In 2024 Iyanya release his new album, 'Once Upon A Cat' Under the Made Men Music Group Record Label.

Fire of Zamani is the second studio album by Nigerian rapper Ice Prince. Sean Stan of Vintage Sounds Production mastered the album before Chocolate City released it on October 28, 2013. Comprising eighteen tracks, Fire of Zamani features guest appearances from Sunny Neji, Wale, M.I, Chip, Ruby Gyang, Wizkid, French Montana, Jesse Jagz, Olamide, Sound Sultan, Burna Boy, Yung L, Jeremiah Gyang, Shaydee, and Morell. The album's production was primarily handled by Chopstix, a member of Grip Boiz City, along with additional production from Don Jazzy, Jay Sleek, Sammy Gyang, and E-Kelly.
"V.I.P" is a song by Nigerian rapper Ice Prince. It was released on April 24, 2013, by Chocolate City. The song was originally intended to be included on Ice Prince's second studio album, Fire of Zamani (2013), but was ultimately removed from the final track list due to reasons that haven't been made public. It peaked at number 26 on Afribiz's Top 100 chart. Ayo is the self-titled second studio album by Nigerian singer Wizkid. It was released on 17 September 2014, by Starboy Entertainment and Empire Mates Entertainment. Ayo was postponed twice due to difficulty in track selection. Preceding its release were the singles "Jaiye Jaiye", "On Top Your Matter", "One Question", "Joy", "Bombay" and "Show You the Money". Toyin Sokefun-Bello, who is better known as TY Bello, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, photographer and philanthropist. Prior to pursuing a solo career, she was a member of the now defunct gospel band Kush. Bello is currently a member of the Nigerian photography collective, Depth of Field. Moral Instruction is the fourth studio album by Nigerian rapper Falz. It was released on January 15, 2019, by Bahd Guys Entertainment. The album was recorded in Nigerian pidgin and samples musical recordings from Fela Kuti. Its production was primarily handled by Sess, with additional production from TMXO, Willis, and Chillz. The album features collaborations with Demmie Vee, Chillz and Sess. Moral Instruction addresses societal issues such as corrupt politicians, corruption, police brutality, prostitution, social injustice and internet fraud. The album's release was preceded by "Talk", a socio-conscious record that addresses critical events. The cover art for Moral Instruction was created by Nigerian artist Lemi Ghariokwu, a long-time Fela collaborator. The album won Best Rap Album and Album of the Year at The Headies 2019.
Outside is the third studio album by Nigerian singer Burna Boy. It was released on January 26, 2018, through Spaceship Entertainment, Bad Habit and Atlantic Records. The album is the follow-up to his debut extended play Redemption (2016). Described by the singer as a mixtape, Outside consists mostly of Afrobeats, dancehall, reggae and road rap. It features guest vocals from English musicians J Hus, Lily Allen and Mabel. Outside was supported by six singles: "Rock Your Body", "Streets of Africa", "Koni Baje", "Sekkle Down", "Heaven's Gate" and "Ye". Its production was handled by various producers, including Juls, Leriq, P2J, Jae 5, FRED and Phantom.
African Giant is the fourth studio album by Nigerian singer Burna Boy. The album was released on July 26, 2019, by Spaceship Entertainment, Bad Habit, Atlantic Records and Warner Music. The album is a mixture of Afrobeats, Afrobeat, dancehall, pop and hip hop. It was produced primarily by Kel-P, along with production from Benjamz, Dre Skull and Skrillex, among others. The album features guest appearances from Jorja Smith, Jeremih, Damian Marley, Zlatan Ibile, Angelique Kidjo, Serani, M.anifest, YG and Future. It was supported by eight singles, including "On the Low", which won Viewers' Choice at the 2020 Soundcity MVP Awards Festival, "Killin Dem", which won Song of the Year at the 2020 Soundcity MVP Awards Festival, among other awards; and "Anybody", which Burna Boy performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
Afrobeats is an umbrella term to describe popular music from West Africa and the diaspora that initially developed in Nigeria, Ghana, and the UK in the 2000s and 2010s. Afrobeats is less of a style per se, and more of a descriptor for the fusion of sounds flowing majorly out of Nigeria. Genres such as hiplife, jùjú music, highlife and naija beats, among others, were amalgamated under the "Afrobeats" umbrella.
Alli Odunayo, professionally known as Telz, is a Nigerian record producer and songwriter known for primarily producing Burna Boy's Grammy award winning album Twice As Tall and Patoranking's 2020 commercially acclaimed hit song "Abule".
