Laikipia University is a Kenyan University located in Nyahururu. It is a premier university of Education (Arts). It has 1 campus: Main Campus.

History

Laikipia University was founded in 1929 as a primary school by William Thomas Alfred Levet. [1] [2] Between 1965 and 1970, the institution served as a Large–Scale Farmers Training College (LSFTC). [3] LSFTC was administered by the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry. In October 1979, it was converted into an Animal Husbandry and Industry Training Institute (AHITI) offering a two-year course leading to a Certificate in Animal Health. In 1990, Laikipia University was established as a Campus of Egerton University. [4]

This followed the recommendations of a Government Committee appointed to look into modalities of absorbing a double intake of students from Secondary Schools. It was meant to offer Education courses for graduate teacher-training. [5]

It remained a campus of Egerton University between 1990 till 2010 majoring in BEd Arts and BA corses. In 2011, it became a constituent University College of Egerton University until 19 February 2013 when the then President of the Republic of Kenya, his Excellency Hon. Mwai Kibaki awarded Charter to make the institution a fully-fledged University. [6] [7]

The Main Campus

Laikipia University Main Campus is located 50 km from Nakuru town and 11 km from Nyahururu Town, along the Nakuru - Nyahururu Highway. It is situated in a serene environment which is conducive for learning. The Main Campus is the University nerve centre where most courses are offered and has the majority of students. The Main Campus has numerous facilities ranging from classrooms, laboratories, library, cyber cafe, bookshop, sports & games facilities, hostels for student accommodation, a health centre, restaurant, farm and Lake Chacha, among others.

Nyahururu Town in Laikipia County, Kenya

Nyahururu is a town in Kenya, lying north east of Nakuru. The town derives its name from the Maasai word e-naiwurruwurr, meaning waterfall and/or windy or place of storms. It is located in Laikipia County. Despite this, Nyahururu formerly functioned as the administrative capital of Nyandarua County, before it became a county, until the headquarters was shifted to Ol Kalou. There have been calls for a reversal. The town has an urban population of 36,450. The town still continues to be a central economic power of the immediate former district of Nyandarua. For that reason, the town has strong economic ties to the two counties.

Moi University is a public university located in Kesses, Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu county, in the former Rift Valley Province of Kenya. It was established in 1984 by the Moi University Act of the Parliament of Kenya, after recommendations from the McKay Commission.

Laikipia County County in Kenya

Laikipia County is one of the 47 Counties of Kenya, located on the Equator in the former Rift Valley Province of the Country. Laikipia is a cosmopolitan County and is Listed as County number 31. The county has two major urban centres: Nanyuki to the southeast, and Nyahururu to the southwest. Its County government headquarters town is Nanyuki. The County lies between latitudes 0° 18” South and 0° 51” North and between longitude 36° 11” and 37° 24’ East. Kabarak University is a private Christian university in Kenya. It was established on a 600-acre (240 ha) farm 20 kilometres (12 mi) from Nakuru, along the Nakuru–Eldama Ravine. The campus features academic, religious and recreational facilities set in a serene environment. The university also Nakuru and Nairobi campuses in Nakuru. The Kabarak AIC chapel sits on the university's main campus grounds and is the venue of mining devotions, midweek fellowship and Sunday service. Other campuses have facilities dedicated for the same. Being a Christian university, all undergraduate students undertake theology as part of their course requirements.

Dedan Kimathi University of Technology University in Kenya

Dedan Kimathi University of Technology is a public, coeducational technological university in Nyeri, Kenya. It is one of 22 public universities in Kenya, having been a constituent college of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology since the year 2007 until it was chartered to become a fully fledged public university on 14 December 2012.

Karnataka State Womens University

Mulungushi University

Mulungushi University is the youngest of the three public universities of Zambia. Previously known as the National College of Management and Development Studies, it was turned into a university by the Zambian Government in a public-private partnership with Konkola Copper Mines in 2008. The University consists of three campuses: the Main Campus, or Great North Road Campus, located 26 kilometers North of Kabwe on the banks of the Mulungushi River; the Town Campus, located along Mubanga Road, off Munkoyo Street, near the center of Kabwe town; and the Livingstone Campus, located in Livingstone, which is home to the medical school. The university provides bachelor's degrees and master's degrees for full-time and distance education. In 2009, more than 500 distance education students enrolled. Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology University in Kenya

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) is a public university that is situated in Juja, 36 kilometres northeast of Nairobi, along the Nairobi-Thika SuperHighway, off Exit 15. .It offers courses in Technology, Engineering, Science, Commerce, Management and Building sciences. Technical University of Mombasa University in Kenya

Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) is a public university located in the coastal city of Mombasa, Kenya Tudor, along Tom Mboya avenue. It is amongst the oldest institution of higher learning in Kenya. It is one of the National Polytechnics recently elevated to a fully fledged University in Kenya. It was awarded its charter in 2013 by-then president Mwai Kibaki.

Chuka University University in Kenya

Chuka University is a public university in the Tharaka Nithi County, Kenya. The university is situated approximately 186 km from Nairobi along the Nairobi-Meru highway, in a rural setting on the eastern slopes of Mt. The college, formerly the Kilifi Institute of Agriculture, was established on 23 August 2007 by an order signed by H.E President Mwai Kibaki.

Kisii University is a public university located in Kisii. It was founded in 1965 as a primary teachers’ training college on a 61-acre land that was donated by the County Council of Gusii. The college continued up to 1983 when it was upgraded to a secondary teachers’ college to offer Diploma programmes.
