The cinema of India comprises films produced in India, where more than 1800 movies are produced annually. Major centres of film production in the country include Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, New Delhi, Amritsar, Kochi, Bangalore, Bhubaneshwar-Cuttack, and Guwahati. Bhupen Hazarika Indian playback singer (1926–2011)

Bhupen Hazarika was an Indian playback singer, lyricist, musician, poet, actor and filmmaker from Assam, widely known as Xudha kontho. His songs, written and sung mainly in the Assamese language by himself, are marked by humanity and universal brotherhood and have been translated and sung in many languages, most notably in Bengali and Hindi.

Zubeen Garg is an Indian singer, music director, composer, lyricist, music producer, actor, film director, film producer, script writer and philanthropist. He primarily works for and sings in the Assamese, Bengali and Hindi-language film and music industries, but has sung in many other languages and dialects, including Bishnupriya Manipuri, Boro, English, Goalpariya, Kannada, Karbi, Khasi, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Odia, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Tiwa. He is also an instrumentalist and plays 12 instruments including dhol, dotara, drums, guitar, harmonica, harmonium, mandolin, keyboard, tabla and various percussion instruments. He is Assam's highest-paid singer. His younger sister Palmee Borthakur is also a singer, but she is a professor.

Assamese cinema Film industry based in Assam, India

Assamese cinema, also known as Jollywood, is the cinema industry in the Assamese language, watched primarily in Assam, India. The industry was born in 1935 when Jyoti Prasad Agarwala released his movie Joymoti. Since then the Assamese cinema has developed a slow-paced, sensitive style, especially with the movies of Bhabendra Nath Saikia and Jahnu Barua. The industry is called Jollywood, named for Agarwala's Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio.

Adil Hussain Indian film actor(born 1963)

Adil Hussain is an Indian actor who has worked in Indian cinema, including art house cinema and mainstream Bollywood, as well as international cinema, in films such as The Reluctant Fundamentalist and Life of Pi. He received National Film Awards at the 2017 National Film Awards for Hotel Salvation and Maj Rati Keteki. He has starred in English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Tamil, Marathi, Malayalam, Norwegian and French films.

<i>Dr. Bezbarua</i> 1969 Indian film

Dr. Bezbarua is a 1969 Indian Assamese language thriller film, the first film of this genre in the language, directed by Brajen Barua and produced by Rangghar Cine Productions. The film was released on 7 November 1969. It was marked as the beginning of success of so-called commercial movies in Assamese Film industry. It was also first time the outdoor and indoor shooting entirely took place in various locations of Assam.

Joymoti - the saviour is an Assamese biographical film directed by Manju Borah. It was released in the year 2006. Shooting of the film was done in Ketetong village at Margherita, Assam.Miao Arunachal Pradesh

Prodyut Kumar Deka is an Indian film director, Screenwriter and Author residing in Assam, India. His films include Dhunia Tirutabur, Samiran Barua Ahi Ase, Surjasta, Borosi and Chiyahir Rong. He turned to writing english fiction gradually from 2016-17 with the anthropological Ambari Series based on the Ambari Archeological site in Guwahati.
