Comcast, the parent company of NBCUniversal, has owned and operated several animation studios since the company acquired NBCUniversal (formed on August 2, 2004) in 2011 and took complete control by 2013.

Contents

Its flagship feature animation studio, Universal Animation Studios through Universal Pictures, outputs television, direct-to-video, and animated feature film releases. Currently, Comcast also operates Illumination and DreamWorks Animation as part of the Universal Filmed Entertainment Group. This article does not include other animation studios whose films were released by only Universal Pictures but don't own.

Amblimation was a British animation studio subsidiary of Amblin Entertainment [3] [4] founded by Steven Spielberg in May 1989. During its run, the studio only produced three feature films, An American Tail: Fievel Goes West (1991), We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story (1993) and Balto (1995), all composed by James Horner and distributed by Universal Pictures. Amblimation's mascot was Fievel Mousekewitz. Before the studio reached a close, its crew members joined DreamWorks Animation [1] [5] (which had been co-founded by Spielberg in 1994), and it closed in 1997. [6]

    An American Tail: Fievel Goes West is a 1991 American animated Western comedy film directed by Phil Nibbelink and Simon Wells, with producer Steven Spielberg for Amblin Entertainment and animated by his Amblimation animation studio and released by Universal Pictures. A sequel to 1986's An American Tail, the film follows the story of the Mousekewitzes, a family of Russian-Jewish mice who emigrate to the Wild West. In it, Fievel is separated from his family as the train approaches the American Old West; the film chronicles him and Sheriff Wylie Burp teaching Tiger how to act like a dog.

    Amblimation was the British animation production subsidiary of Amblin Entertainment. It was formed by Steven Spielberg in May 1989, following the success of Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988), and after he parted ways with Don Bluth, due to creative differences. It was stationed in what was originally the D. Napier & Son factory in Acton, London and had 250 crew members from 15 different nations. It only produced three feature films: An American Tail: Fievel Goes West (1991), We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story (1993), and Balto (1995), all three of which were composed by James Horner and distributed by Universal Pictures. The company's mascot, Fievel Mousekewitz, appears in its production logo.

    Universal Studios Florida is a theme park located in Orlando, Florida, that opened on June 7, 1990. Universal Studios Florida was the first of three theme parks to open at Universal Orlando Resort, joined later by Islands of Adventure in 1999 and Volcano Bay in 2017.     Illumination is an American animation studio founded by Chris Meledandri in 2007 and owned by Universal Pictures, a division of Comcast through its wholly owned subsidiary NBCUniversal; Meledandri produces the films, while Universal finances and distributes them. The studio is best known for creating the Despicable Me, The Secret Life of Pets, and Sing franchises, as well as the adaptations of Dr. Seuss' books The Lorax and How the Grinch Stole Christmas!; and Nintendo video games, starting with The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The Minions, characters from the Despicable Me series, are the mascots of the studio.

Films produced by Amblin Partners are primarily distributed by Universal in North America and select international territories, and by third-party distributors through Mister Smith Entertainment in other countries.

    An American Tail: Fievel Goes West is the soundtrack and score album to the 1991 film An American Tail: Fievel Goes West. The animated Western comedy film, which was the first to be produced by Amblimation, an animation studio and subsidiary of Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment, is the sequel to An American Tail (1986). James Horner who composed music for the first film, returned to score for Fievel Goes West, and also wrote four original songs with Will Jennings. The album featured four songs, with Linda Ronstadt and Cathy Cavadini performing the tracks. The original song "Dreams to Dream" received a nomination for Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, and was shortlisted for the nomination of Academy Award for Best Original Song, but the track was not nominated.
