The Loktantrik Morcha was formed on 4 June 2013 [1] as a seven-party alliance of left-wing parties and other supporting parties in Rajasthan, India. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Amra Ram is the chief ministerial candidate. [2]

The front included the CPI(M), the Communist Party of India, the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist), the Marxist Communist Party of India (United), the Samajwadi Party, and the Janata Dal (Secular). [3] Later, the only RLD MLA announced support for the Congress government.

Socialism in India is a political movement founded early in the 20th century, as a part of the broader movement to gain Indian independence from colonial rule. The movement grew quickly in popularity as it espoused the causes of India's farmers and labourers against the zamindars, the princely class and the landed gentry. After independence and until the early 1990s, socialism shaped some economic and social policies of the Indian government, although they mostly followed the principles of dirigisme. In its early years, communist ideology was harshly suppressed through legal prohibitions and criminal prosecutions. Eventually, communist parties became ensconced in national party politics, sprouting several political offshoots.

The Left and Secular Alliance was a pre-poll alliance of political parties in the Indian state of Manipur. The alliance was formed ahead of the 2014 Indian general election by ten political parties as an alternative to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress (INC).

Legislative Assembly election was held in 2016 for the 294 seats of the Vidhan Sabha in the state of West Bengal in India. The All India Trinamool Congress under Mamata Banerjee won 211 seats, and thus was reelected with an enhanced majority. Like in the 2011 election, the poll was held in six phases, with the first phase divided into two days.
