Los Angeles Press Club

The Los Angeles Press Club is an American journalism organization founded in 1913. [1] [2] It honors journalists through its annual National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards and SoCal Journalism Awards. [3] As of 2023, the Los Angeles Press Club hosted the 65th SoCal Journalism Awards and the 16th National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards in downtown Los Angeles. [4] [5]

In 2024, the Board of Directors includes the organization's president – Robert Kovacik of KNBC, [6] vice president – Cher Calvin of KTLA, [7] and treasurer Chris Palmeri of Bloomberg. The executive director is Swedish-born journalist Diana Ljungaeus. [8]

Dean of the USC Annenberg School of Journalism, Willow Bay, was honored with the organization's Joseph M. Quinn Award in 2015. [9]

Willow Bay is an American television journalist, editor, author, and former model. In 2017, she became dean of the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism having earlier served as director of USC Annenberg School of Journalism. She was previously a senior editor for the Huffington Post and a special correspondent for Bloomberg Television.

Truthdig is an American alternative news website that provides a mix of long-form articles, blog items, curated links, interviews, arts criticism, and commentary on current events that is delivered from a politically progressive, left-leaning point of view. The site offers independent journalism and focuses on major "digs" that purport to look beneath headlines to reveal facts overlooked or not reported by mainstream media. Truthdig was co-founded in 2005 by Zuade Kaufman and Robert Scheer, who served as editor-in-chief. As of 2014, the Truthdig site drew more than 400,000 visitors per month.

The USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism comprises a School of Communication and a School of Journalism at the University of Southern California (USC). Starting July 2017, the school's Dean is Willow Bay, succeeding Ernest J. Wilson III. The graduate program in Communication is consistently ranked first according to the QS World University Rankings.

The KTLA 5 Morning News is an American morning television news program airing on KTLA, a CW-owned-and-operated station in Los Angeles, California owned by Nexstar Media Group. The program broadcasts each weekday from 4 am to 12 pm Pacific Time. The 4-7 am portion is a general news/traffic/weather format; the 7 am-12 pm portion also features news, traffic, and weather but emphasizes entertainment and other light-hearted stories. Weekend editions of the program also air on Saturday and Sunday from 6-11 a.m.

Cher Calvin is a news presenter for KTLA television in Los Angeles.

He was selected as Journalist of the Year at the 55th Southern California Journalism Awards in 2013. According to the judges, "Robert Kovacik has not only won the trust and respect of his audience, but he has won their hearts with solid reporting and integrity."

Neon Tommy was the online news publication sponsored by the Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism at the University of Southern California. It was active from 2009 to 2015.

Sam Rubin is an American journalist who serves as the entertainment reporter for the KTLA Morning News and as a correspondent for Reelz production Hollywood Dailies. He hosts Live From the Academy Awards and the celebrity talk-show Hollywood Uncensored with Sam Rubin. Rubin has reported on the entertainment industry for over twenty years and has interviewed many Hollywood stars, including Tom Hanks, Mel Gibson, Jeff Bridges, Halle Berry, Samuel L. She is best known for the non-fiction book Ghettoside: A True Story of Murder in America, her 2015 New York Times best-seller about homicide in Los Angeles. Leovy argues in Ghettoside that more effort must be given to arresting and incarcerating perpetrators of inner-city murders, because "impunity for the murder of black men remained America’s great, though mostly invisible, race problem."
