Luke Jacobz (born Luke Jacob Ashwood; 14 February 1981) is an Australian actor and television presenter. He is best known for his roles as Zac Croft in Heartbreak High , Patrick Brewer in McLeod's Daughters , Angelo Rosetta in Home and Away , and as presenter of the Australian version of The X Factor .

Early life

Jacobz was born Luke Jacob Ashwood. [1] Jacobz is a screen name, derived from adding a 'z' to the actor's middle name. He has one brother. Jacobz appeared in a high school production of The Man of Steel in 1995.

Career

Jacobz came to public attention when he starred as Zac Croft for two years on the Australian teen drama television series Heartbreak High . He later moved on to hosting television programs such as The Big Arvo and Popstars Live .

Jacobz made a return to acting in McLeod's Daughters as Patrick Brewer, appearing on the show between 2005 and 2008. [2] From 2008 until 2011, Jacobz played Angelo Rosetta in the Australian soap opera Home and Away . He was only originally supposed to be in the serial for six months, but proved popular with viewers. [3] Jacobz's character was written out after producers felt that he had done everything they wanted him to do. [3]

In 2008, Jacobz was crowned Dancing with the Stars champion along with dancer and mentor Luda Kroitor. [4]

Jacobz hosted seasons 2 through to 7 of The X Factor , from 2010 to 2015. [5] [6]

After the death of his father, Jacobz left Australia for Los Angeles. [7] He struggled to find steady work and returned to Australia in 2017 to host Instant Hotel . [7] He was replaced by Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen in 2018, however, he admitted "They needed someone with an eye for design. I'm not a home builder, I'm a host. If I was replaced by another host, I'd be upset." [7]

In 2019, Jacobz was a contestant in the fifth Australian season of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! He was eliminated along with Angie Kent in a double elimination, making them the ninth and tenth contestants to leave the jungle. [8]

From 13 August 2020, he reprised his role of Angelo Rosetta and returned to Home and Away in a recurring role. He departed the series on 26 November 2020. [9]

Personal life

Jacobz has ADHD. [7] His father John Ashwood died of brain cancer in 2015. [7]

He previously dated his Dancing with the Stars partner Luda Kroitor. [10] In 2018, Jacobz got engaged to his partner Raychel Stuart. The couple married in Centennial Park in June 2023, after they had to postpone their original wedding plans twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [11] The following month, they announced they were expecting their first child, [12] and Stuart gave birth to their daughter on 14 November 2023. [13]

Jacobz was charged with drink driving on 31 May 2015 in Sydney, returning a 0.116 reading, well above the 0.05 limit. [14] In court, he pleaded guilty and lost his licence for 12 months and was fined AU$700. [15]

Angelo Rosetta is a fictional character from the Australian television soap opera Home and Away, played by Luke Jacobz. He made his debut during the episode broadcast on 8 July 2008. He has been central to many notable storylines including shooting dead Jack Holden, his time working as a Sergeant of Summer Bay's police force and his relationship with Charlie Buckton. In 2011, it was revealed that Jacobz had been written out of the serial as producers felt there was "nowhere else to go" with Angelo. The character departed on 21 June 2011. In February 2020, it was announced that Jacobz had agreed to reprise the role and he returned as Angelo on 13 August 2020. Angelo comes back to the Bay to investigate a murder, having been reinstated to the police force. Actress Annabelle Stephenson was cast as Angelo's wife Taylor Rosetta. His final appearance aired on 26 November 2020.

The X Factor was an Australian television reality music competition, based on the original UK series, to find new singing talent; the winner of which received a recording contract with record label Sony Music Australia. The second season premiered on the Seven Network on 30 August 2010 and ended on 22 November 2010. The winner was Altiyan Childs and his debut single "Somewhere in the World" was released after the final. Childs was mentored throughout by Ronan Keating, who won as mentor for the first time. The season was presented by Luke Jacobz, while spin-off show The Xtra Factor was hosted by Natalie Garonzi on 7Two. The show was originally to be hosted by actor Matthew Newton, however, he was forced to withdraw as host during production after an altercation with his former girlfriend Rachael Taylor and re-admitting himself to rehab. Guy Sebastian, Natalie Imbruglia, Keating and Kyle Sandilands who is the additional fourth judge joined the judging panel as replacements for former judges, Mark Holden, Kate Ceberano and John Reid.

The X Factor was an Australian television reality music competition, based on the original UK series, to find new singing talent; the winner of which received a management contract and a Sony Music Australia recording contract. The third season premiered on the Seven Network on 29 August 2011 and ended on 22 November 2011. The winner was Reece Mastin and his debut single "Good Night" was released after the final. Mastin was mentored throughout by Guy Sebastian, who won as mentor for the first time. There was only a one percent difference in the votes between Mastin and runner-up Andrew Wishart. The season was presented by Luke Jacobz. Ronan Keating and Sebastian were the only judges from the previous season who returned, while Natalie Bassingthwaighte and Mel B joined the judging panel as replacements for former judges, Natalie Imbruglia and Kyle Sandilands.

Darryl "Brax" Braxton is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera Home and Away, played by Steve Peacocke. He made his first screen appearance during the episode broadcast on 16 February 2011. The character was created and introduced along with his two brothers; Heath and Casey. The trio were nicknamed The River Boys and were inspired by the real life Bra Boys group. When Peacocke learnt about the role of Brax, he initially thought he would not suit the part as he is from the country. However, after learning more about the character, Peacocke successfully auditioned for the role. Peacocke's departure was announced on 1 February 2015 and Brax made a temporary exit on 10 June 2015, before returning on 9 December. He made his final appearance on 7 June 2016.

Annabelle Stephenson is an Australian actress. She began her career playing Miriam Kent in H2O: Just Add Water. After graduating from the National Institute of Dramatic Art, Stephenson moved to Los Angeles, where she filmed a pilot for MTV. She gained wider recognition as Sara Munello in Revenge (2013–2014) and Laura Maney in the Netflix series Tidelands. Stephenson's film roles include Rehearsal (2015), Escape Room (2017), and Pray for Rain (2017). Stephenson joined the cast of television soap opera Home and Away as Taylor Rosetta in 2020.
