Luke Rathborne is an American musician from Maine who currently lives in New York City. He was featured on BBC 6 Music as a discovery of BBC 6 Music D.J. Lauren Laverne. [1] Since then, he has gone on to open up for mainstream acts like the Strokes at SXSW 2011 at Auditorium Shores. [2]
In November 2008, Rathborne was featured in Interview magazine [3] under their 'Discovery Artists' of the year.
Rathborne got his start by moving to New York City when he was 18 years old. His debut album, After Dark recorded when he was 17 years old started gaining the attention of figures in the music business, the first individual to discover Rathborne was Joey Levine, a songwriter of tin-pan alley fame who penned "Yummy Yummy Yummy" among others. He decided to produce several songs for Rathborne and brought him to music industry figures eventually attracting management to Rathborne's Career.
In 2011, Rathborne was signed to Los Angeles independent label, Dilettante and Australian label, Speak N' Spell Records and released a double EP, Dog Years/I Can Be One. The record was self-released by Rathborne in the U.K. on his own label, True Believer. It gained much attention in the U.K. and prompted an appearance on Lauren Laverne's programme on BBC Radio 6 Music and appearances in the NME , leading to a slot playing before 30,000 at SXSW and embarking on several US tours. The record featured two separate sides of different music representing two sides of the artist.
Rathborne's first album, After Dark was recorded when he was 17 years old. Rathborne has stated in interviews in order to record the album he would have to sneak into a recording studio at night at a local college in his town, pretending to be doing a radio show at the college radio station, WBOR, and going in to record through the night. The record was completed without the knowledge of the local college, and was engineered and produced by Rathborne himself, who learned to use the studio without assistance.
Upon visiting the U.K. Rathborne caught the attention of BBC 6 Music DJ Lauren Laverne, who personally offered to bring Rathborne on her show, after another guest, ironically Noah and the Whale singer had called out sick. Rathborne was on tour in England and showed up to BBC Studios in London performing live on-air with his band.
In February 2011, Rathborne organized a tour through London playing a different venue in London each night for seven nights. The tour was well received and documented by The Fly magazine,
It's a day that usually fills most workers with dread, but Sunday in Stoke Newington is an altogether different affair thanks to this night that helps to segue the excesses of the weekend into the calm predictability of the working week. This week, American troubadour Luke Rathborne is the special guest at The Drop – just one of numerous performances over town. He comes bearing no gifts though and the evening kicks off an hour later than expected while the organisers struggle to find a backline and drum kit. It tends to be a simpler affair round here, you see. On record, his songs twist an engaging tale of gritty melancholy, but one that feels relatively restrained so it is a surprise when the guitars kick in and the world-weary, haunting tracks explode with such powerful force. Rathborne's voice has an old, worn quality that speaks of long roads travelled and of knowledge not expected from a 22-year-old. The comparisons to Bob Dylan and Elliott Smith are easily understood – it's raw, simple, aching – but his sparsely arranged confessionals are darkly captivating in their own right. This record went on to capture the attention of different individuals in New York City, prompting Rathborne's move.

SOFT - 2013 – In 2013, Rathborne launched his own new label, True Believer [4] and started a 4-piece band. In October, SOFT was released as a new sound, eventually garnering over nine million Spotify streams as an independent release and touring the USA extensively with Travis and Albert Hammond Jr. over the Fall/Winter of 2013. The Flaming Lips are an American psychedelic rock band formed in 1983 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The band currently consists of Wayne Coyne, Steven Drozd, Derek Brown, Matt Duckworth Kirksey and Nicholas Ley. Coyne and Drozd have remained the band's only consistent members since 1991, with Coyne being the only remaining founding member following the departure of bassist and keyboardist Michael Ivins in 2021.
The Ohio Express is an American bubblegum pop band formed in Mansfield, Ohio, in 1967. Though marketed as a band, it would be more accurate to say that the name "Ohio Express" served as a brand name used by Jerry Kasenetz's and Jeffry Katz's Super K Productions to release the music of a number of different musicians and acts. The best known songs of Ohio Express were actually the work of an assemblage of studio musicians working in New York, including singer/songwriter Joey Levine. Other recorded "Ohio Express" work included material recorded by an early group of Joe Walsh, as well as a later single written and sung by Graham Gouldman.
Lauren Cecilia Fisher, known professionally as Lauren Laverne, is an English radio DJ, model, television presenter, author and singer. She was the lead singer and additional guitarist in the alternative rock band Kenickie. The group's album At The Club reached the top 10, although her greatest chart success came when she performed vocals on Mint Royale's single "Don't Falter". Laverne has presented numerous television programmes, including 10 O'Clock Live for Channel 4, and The Culture Show and coverage of the Glastonbury Festival for the BBC. She has also written a published novel entitled Candypop: Candy and the Broken Biscuits. She presents the breakfast show on BBC Radio 6 Music, and in 2018 became the host of the long-running radio show Desert Island Discs.

Credit to the Nation are a British hip hop group, who had chart success in the 1990s and are best known for their Nirvana-sampling single "Call It What You Want". The band is fronted by Matty Hanson and was initially noted for fusing a conscious hip hop style with political elements taken from the British left-wing and anarchist movements. Following their initial split in 1998, the band reformed in 2011.

Fin Greenall, known professionally as Fink, is an English singer, songwriter, guitarist, producer and disc jockey born in Cornwall and currently based in Berlin and London. From 1997 to 2003, he focused on electronic music and DJ'd internationally, releasing in 2000 his debut album Fresh Produce on Ninja Tune. Since the 2006 release of his album Biscuits for Breakfast, the name Fink has also referred to the recording and touring trio fronted by Greenall himself, completed by Guy Whittaker (bass) and Tim Thornton (drums).

Echaskech are a British electronica / audio-visual act based in London. The band formed in 2004 and were originally a duo composed of Dom Hoare and Andy Gillham, who had previously worked together as a drum & bass DJ act touring with artists such as LTJ Bukem and Grooverider. Early in 2005 the music duo became a multimedia trio with the addition of visual artist Mach V, who provides visuals during live performances and whose prior work includes music festivals such as The Big Chill and a collaboration with Sounds from the Ground that exhibited at Tate Britain. Also in 2005 Echaskech performed along with Jon Hopkins at various events in London and as a result Jon introduced the band to Just Music who subsequently signed them.
Simian Ghost is an alternative music group from Sandviken/Gävle, Sweden, consisting of Sebastian Arnström, Erik Klinga, Mathias Zachrisson and Wilhelm Magnusson. It was initiated as a recording project by Sebastian Arnström. He released one full-length album, Infinite Traffic Everywhere, which was received with blog praise and excellent reviews. It topped the critics chart in Sweden and was voted record of the year by the readers at Dagensskiva.se. Six months after the release of said record he released a 7-song EP called Lovelorn.

Hands is an indie rock band from Los Angeles, California. The band was founded in 2012 and previously released an EP, Massive Context, on Small Plates Records. Their first single was debuted by Nylon Magazine in April 2012. The band also released a 7” on White Iris Records in January 2013. In January, the band signed to Kill Rock Stars and announced that its forthcoming debut full-length, Synesthesia, would be released by the label on April 30, 2013. The first single from the album, "Trouble", was debuted exclusively on Stereogum, and the band performed at SXSW in 2013. On January 9, 2013, Lauren Laverne featured "Trouble" between Depeche Mode and Veronica Falls on BBC6., and later featured it as the BBC MPFree of the day. On January 23, 2013, Nylon Magazine premiered the first single from their new 7" release on White Iris Records. The track, entitled "All I Want To Know", was subsequently featured by Filter Magazine.
