MS Ivan Franko was the first Ivan Franko-class passenger ship owned by the Soviet Union 's Black Sea Shipping Company. She was built in 1964 by V.E.B. Mathias-Thesen Werft, Wismar, East Germany. She was scrapped in 1997 at Alang, India. [1]

<i>Ivan Franko</i>-class passenger ship

The Ivan Franko-class passenger ship was a class of Soviet ocean liners and cruise ships, operated by the Baltic State Shipping Company (BGMP) and Black Sea Shipping Company . The five Soviet ships Ivan Franko, Aleksandr Pushkin, Taras Shevchenko, Shota Rustaveli and Mikhail Lermontov were constructed in 1963–1972 by the East German company VEB Mathias-Thesen Werft, in Wismar. The class was named after its lead ship, which took its name from the Ukrainian poet Ivan Franko. The last remaining vessel, the Aleksandr Pushkin – last known as Marco Polo, was retired in 2020 and beached in Alang, India for scrapping on January 13, 2021.

Larysa Ivanivna Khorolets was a Ukrainian actress, playwright, cultural manager, politician, and academic teacher. She played at the Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theater from 1973 to 1990. She served as the Minister of Culture of Ukraine in the Ukrainian SSR from August 1991, and upon Ukraine's independence later that year, serving until 1992. Afterward, she held positions in cultural management, diplomatic service, and academic teaching.

Philipp Oswald and Filip Polášek were the defending champions, but chose to participate with different partners. Oswald partnered Marcus Daniell and lost in the quarterfinals to Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos. Polášek partnered Ivan Dodig and lost in the semifinals to Austin Krajicek and Franko Škugor.

Defending champions Nikola Mektić and Mate Pavić defeated John Isner and Diego Schwartzman in the final, 6–2, 6–7(6–8), [12–10] to win the men's doubles tennis title at the 2022 Italian Open. The pair saved a championship point en route to their tenth career title as a team.
