Constituent Assembly elections were held in Nepal on 10 April 2008, having been postponed from earlier dates of 7 June 2007 and 22 November 2007. The Constituent Assembly was planned to draft a new constitution and therefore decide, amongst other things, on the issue of federalism. The number of eligible voters was around 17.5 million. The Constituent Assembly was originally set to have a term of two years.
Upendra Yadav is a Nepalese politician who has served as the chairman of the People's Socialist Party, Nepal since 2020. He has been the Member of Parliament for Saptari 2 since 2017. He served as the Deputy Prime Minister of Nepal under the government of KP Sharma Oli from 2018 to 2020. He also served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Dahal cabinet from 2008 to 2009 and in the Khanal cabinet in 2011.
The Terai Madhesh Loktantrik Party was a political party in Nepal, formed by former Minister and Nepali Congress national treasurer Mahantha Thakur. This party was once the biggest Madhesh based party with a strong base in Terai region of Nepal. The foundation of the party was announced on December 27, 2007. This party was made by Thakur with a popular slogan "Mare to Mukti, jiye to Madhesh" meaning if I will live, I will fight for Madhesh and if I will get salvation. This was very popular and is popular till date. The party had four members in the interim parliament including Thakur.

The Madhesi Jana Adhikar Forum, Nepal (MJFN), or the Madhesi People's Rights Forum, Nepal, was a political party in Nepal. It was initially not a political party as such but a political advocacy movement demanding ethnic self-determination rights with the formation of a Madhes autonomous region for Teraibasi people, an election system based on proportional representation, and the setting-up of a federal republic in Nepal. The MJFN includes former leaders of other political parties like the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML).
Nepal Sadbhavana Party (Anandidevi) is a political party in Nepal. The party was formed in March 2003 by Anandidevi Singh in March 2003, after the Nepal Sadbhavana Party chairman Badri Prasad Mandal had joined the government installed by King Gyanendra. After the NSP(A) was founded, a Central Working Committee consisting of Durba Prasad Rajbanshi, Kushi Lal Mandal, Gauri Prasad Singh, Bhogendra Thakur, Madhav Prasad Yadav, Dev Narayan Yadav, Renu Yadav, Bishwonath Shah, Ramnarayan Raya, Kritram Pandit, Jaya Narayan Chaurasiya, Govinda Chaudhary, Govinda Tharu, Kasim Ali Siddique and Anil Kumar Jha was elected.
Rastriya Janashakti Party was a liberal political party in Nepal, led by former Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa. Thapa had split away from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party in November 2004. The party was registered with the Election Commission of Nepal in March 2005. The party merged into Rastriya Prajatantra Party on July 25, 2007.

Nepal Sadbhavana Party (Anandidevi) is a political party in Nepal. The party is founded in 2008 and emerged from a split in the Nepal Sadbhavana Party (Anandidevi) as the grouping around Khushi Lal Mandal and Sarita Giri moved to expel the general secretary of the NSP(A) and Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supply Shyam Sundar Gupta from the party. Since Gupta was not sacked from the government cabinet, Singh vowed to pull NSP(A) out of the Seven Party Alliance. Effectively, there were two separate NSP(A)s in existence. The group that retained the registration at the Election Commission of Nepal is the group led by Gupta, and the Nepal Sadbhavana Party (Anandidevi) led by Mandal is currently unregistered.
The first Nepalese Constituent Assembly was a unicameral body of 601 members that served from May 28, 2008, to May 28, 2012. It was formed as a result of the first Constituent Assembly election held on April 10, 2008. The Constituent Assembly (CA) was tasked with writing a new constitution, and acting as the interim legislature for a term of two years. 240 members were elected in single-seat constituencies, 335 were elected through proportional representation, and the remaining 26 seats were reserved for nominated members.
Sarbadev Prasad Ojha is a Nepalese politician, belonging to the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum. Ojha is the president of MJF in the Banke district. In April 2008, he won the Banke-3 seat in the Constituent Assembly election.
Sebaki Devi Das Tatma is a Nepalese politician, belonging to the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum. During the campaigns of MJF for Madhesi autonomy, Tatma took parts in rallies of the movement. Following the 2008 Constituent Assembly election, she was selected by MJF from the Proportional Representation quota to represent the party in the assembly. Prior to becoming a Constituent Assembly member, the 32-year-old Tatma worked as a domestic servant. She has four children.

The Nepalese Constituent Assembly (CA) elected in April 2008 elected a new president and vice-president after the Fifth Amendment to the Interim Constitution was passed on 14 July. This would be the first President to be elected after Nepal became a republic a few months earlier.

The party later split into two, and she joined the Jaya Prakash Gupta group, who launched a new political party under the name Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum, Republican in May 2011.
Jay Prakash Gupta, also referred to as Jay Prakash Anand or popularly JP Gupta, is a Nepalese politician and former member of the Madhesi Jana Adhikar Forum, Nepal(Republican) party. He was born in Saptari District, Nepal. Before joining forum, he was a member of Nepali Congress. His political career was going very well from this party but he left the party during Madhesh movement. He is presently running Terai Madhesh Rastriya Abhiyan.
The Madhesi Jana Adhikar Forum, Nepal (Loktantrik), was a political party in Nepal. It existed as one of the important political force during the constituent assembly. Later the party merged with several other parties to become the largest Madhesh/Tharuhath based party, Nepal Loktantrik Forum.
