Madhu C Narayanan is an Indian film director, [1] who works predominantly in Malayalam movie industry. His directorial debut, Kumbalangi Nights , received immense critical acclaim for its realistic and poignant portrayal of a dysfunctional family. [1] [2]

Early life

In the beginning, Madhu collaborated with several  advertisement companies as an associate. Madhu made his entry in feature films through Aashiq Abu's Daddy Cool where he served as an assistant director. From Aashiq's third film 22 Female Kottayam onwards, Madhu frequently collaborated with him as an associate director. Madhu C Narayanan's stint as associate director also includes Dileesh Pothan's Maheshinte Prathikaaram and Shyju Khalid's "Sethulakshmi" (Anthology segment; 5 Sundarikal). He also served as a creative contributor  in Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum

Career

Madhu C Narayanan's debut movie Kumbalangi Nights, came out in 2019. The movie received critical acclaim and was a commercial success as well. Later Kumbalangi Nights achieved a widespread recognition as the praising reviews for the movie appeared in global media like The Guardian . [2]

Sushin Shyam is an Indian music composer, instrumentalist, and singer primarily associated with Malayalam cinema. He is also a founding member of the folk metal band The Down Troddence. He is known for his contributions to the films Varathan (2018), Kumbalangi Nights (2019), Minnal Murali (2021), Bheeshma Parvam (2022), Romancham (2023) and Kannur Squad (2023). His work on Kumbalangi Nights earned him the Kerala State Film Award for Best Music Director in 2019.

Kumbalangi Nights is a 2019 Indian Malayalam-language drama film directed by Madhu C. Narayanan. The directorial debut was written by Syam Pushkaran and jointly produced by Fahadh Faasil and Nazriya Nazim under their production house Fahadh Faasil and Friends, in association with Dileesh Pothan and Syam Pushkaran under Working Class Hero. The film stars Shane Nigam, Soubin Shahir, Fahadh Faasil and Sreenath Bhasi, along with debutants Anna Ben, Grace Antony and Mathew Thomas in pivotal roles. The cinematography and editing were handled by Shyju Khalid and Saiju Sreedharan, respectively. The soundtrack and background score is composed by Sushin Shyam.

Aravindan Puraskaram (Aravindan Award) is an award instituted in 1991 in the memory of iconic Malayalam filmmaker G. Aravindan for the best debutant director in Indian languages. The award comprises Rs. 25,000, a memento and a citation. The award is facilitated by Kerala Chalachitra Film Society. The award is presented on March 15 every year on the death anniversary of Aravindan, who is considered one of the pioneers of parallel cinema in Malayalam.

Kumbalangi Nights is the soundtrack album for the 2019 Malayalam-language drama film of the same name. The film, directed by Madhu C. Narayanan in his directorial debut, features musical score composed by Sushin Shyam with the soundtrack accompanied for the film has seven songs in number. The Malayalam lyrics were penned by Anwar Ali and Vinayak Sasikumar, while the English songs featured in the album were penned by Nezer Ahamed, Shyam's bandmate in The Down Troddence rock musical band. Shyam, Sithara Krishnakumar, Sooraj Santhosh, Anne Amie, Kezia Quintal (K.Zia), Akhil Unnikrishnan a.k.a. AKEL and Yadav gave vocals for the tracks featured in the album.
