Education

She has a degree in Radio/TV Production from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, United States and teaches at the Department of Visual Studies at the University of Karachi.

Career

She has worked as an editor at a production house and made documentaries and short films on social issues and is one of the founder members and is on the organizing board of Pakistan's young, international film festival – The KaraFilm Festival (Karachi Film Festival). [2]

She has served as Jury for International Film Festivals like Tehran International Short Film Festival 2005, Tehran, Iran, November 2005, Tampere Film Festival 2006, Tampere, Finland, March 2006, [1] and Hyderabad International Film Festival 2007, Hyderabad, AP, India. The berlinale lists her in their talent data base. She is also actively involved with PAWS Pakistan Animal Welfare Society

Maheen Zia, is the winner of India EU Film Initiative – Berlin Today Award 08 for the film 'Match Factor' Maheen Zia worked as Juror for Afghanistan Competition of 2nd Kabul Documentary & Short Film Festival and also won the third prize of this festival for her documentary work 'The Women of Lahore' in the international competition section [2]

Maheen Zia won the BERLIN TODAY AWARD 2008 for her short film Match Factor.

<i>Lyari Notes</i> Film

Lyari Notes is a 2016 documentary that was directed by Maheen Zia and Miriam Chandy Menacherry. The film premiered at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam after being pitched at the Sheffield Doc/Fest MeetMarket in 2015, and follows a young girl and her friends as they use music as a form of escape and expression.

Karachi Area Control Centre is one of two Area Control Centers in Pakistan operated by the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority and is based in Terminal 1 at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi. Karachi ACC air traffic controllers provide en route and terminal control services to aircraft in the Karachi Flight Information Region. The Karachi FIR airspace covers Pakistani airspace between the 30° North to 23° North. To the north is the Lahore FIR. To the east is the Delhi FIR. Miriam Chandy Menacherry is a Keralite documentary filmmaker and producer based in Mumbai, India. She founded Filament Pictures in 2005, a production house which creates socially relevant feature length documentaries. She was one of the 18 filmmakers selected from the Middle East and Asia for the Global Media Makers Fellowship 2019-20. The fellowship is offered by the US State Department and Film Independent. Her documentary, Rat Race (2011) was the winner of the Mipdoc Co-Production Challenge at Cannes (France). Miriam has also won the Asian Television Awards for Best Social Documentary (2007) and the UK Environment Film Fellowship (2008).
