Greece has recognized cohabitation agreements providing same-sex couples with several of the rights and benefits of marriage since 24 December 2015. Legislation allowing such unions was approved by the Hellenic Parliament on 23 December 2015 and published in the Government Gazette the following day. In July 2023, the re-elected government headed by the New Democracy party announced its intention to legalize same-sex marriage. Legislation was introduced in February 2024 and is expected to pass before Easter.
Ocean Countess was a cruise ship owned by Majestic International Cruises of Greece. She was completed in 1976 as Cunard Countess for Cunard Line and was a popular ship in the Caribbean cruise market for 20 years. After leaving Cunard service in 1996, she had a number of owners before being purchased by Majestic in 2004. She was retired in 2012 and scrapped in 2014 after a fire destroyed the ship.

The scandal emerged in 2014 when prosecutor Aristidis Korreas' 173-page work was revealed. The prosecutor’s report was mainly based on telephone tappings, operated by the National Intelligence Service of Greece, that allegedly showed relations between clubs’ executives and Greek Football Association. According to that report various executives, including football players, referees, club and association executives, had formed a criminal organization in order to control the Greek football through fixing matches and blackmailing.",
SS Brasil was an American built ocean liner launched at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi in 1957. The ship was originally named Brasil for Moore-McCormack Lines, Inc. 's South American service, but was renamed a number of times. During its history the ship served as a cruise ship and later served in the Semester at Sea program as Universe Explorer. The ship was scrapped in Alang, India, in 2004 sailing under the name Universe for the final voyage.

During the morning hours of November 15, 2017, after heavy rainfall caused because of the barometric low Eurydice and the Cyclone Numa, flooding occurred in Western Attica and mainly in Mandra, Nea Peramos, Magoula and Elefsina. The floods killed 24 people and caused severe damage. This is the third largest flood in Attica based on the number of dead.
