Makalo Petrus Mohale is a South African lawyer and African National Congress politician serving as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education. He had previously been the MEC for Economic,Small Business Development,Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA) from May 2019 until March 2023. Mohale is the provincial chairperson of the African National Congress Youth League.
Mohale grew up in Botshabelo,a township east of Bloemfontein in the Orange Free State Province. He holds an LLB degree from the University of South Africa and a BCom degree from the University of the Free State. He holds a post-graduate diploma in law,a post-graduate diploma in contracting and a diploma in corporate law from the University of Johannesburg. [1]
Mohale became active in politics while at the University of the Free State. [1] He served as the branch chairperson of the South African Student Congress at the university between 2002 and 2003. He was SASCO's provincial secretary from 2003 to 2004. [1] Mohale also served as the branch chairperson of the National Education,Health and Allied Workers' Union from 2006 to 2007. [1]
While holding these positions,he also held senior positions in the African National Congress and its youth league. [1] From 2002 until 2004,Mohale served as the deputy secretary of the party's Thutong branch in Mangaung and as the chairperson of the youth league at the University of the Free State. [1] He was chair of the youth league in Parys between 2008 and 2011. [1] In 2013,Mohale became the convenor of the provincial youth league structure and was elected as chairperson the following year. In 2017,he endorsed Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma's campaign for national ANC president. [3]
In 2004,he did his law articles in Bloemfontein,the provincial capital. [1] Mohale was a public participation officer at the Free State Provincial Legislature between 2004 and 2007. [1] He proceeded to work as a supply chain manager at the Ngwathe Local Municipality until 2012. [1] He was then appointed as the Mangaung mayoral spokesperson. He held this position until 2013. [1] Mohale was then employed by the Free State Department of Police Roads and Transport in April 2013. [1] He served in this position until his appointment as the premier's spokesperson in 2015. [1] Soon after,Mohale was appointed to the provincial housing department as the chief director of housing programmes. He held this position until the provincial and national elections that was held on 8 May 2019. [1]
He joined the provincial legislature as a member following the elections. On 28 May 2019,Mohale was appointed MEC for Economic,Small Business Development,Tourism and Environmental Affairs,replacing Limakatso Mahasa. [4] He was tasked by premier Sisi Ntombela with resolving the issue of youth unemployment. [5]
In February 2020,Mohale and a delegation from the department completed a nine-day investment drive in Turkey. [6]
Mohale became the MEC for Education in March 2023,following Mxolisi Dukwana's election as Premier of the Free State the previous month. [7]
The 53rd National Conference of the African National Congress (ANC) was held in Mangaung,Free State from 16 to 20 December 2012,during the centenary of the ANC's establishment,also in Mangaung. It re-elected incumbent President Jacob Zuma and his supporters to the party's top leadership and National Executive Committee (NEC),solidly defeating an opposing group that had coalesced around presidential challenger Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe.
Sefora Hixsonia "Sisi" Ntombela is a South African politician who was the 6th Premier of the Free State and a Member of the Free State Provincial Legislature for the African National Congress. She previously served as the Free State MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs and Human Settlements and as MEC for Social Development. Ntombela was also the Deputy President of the African National Congress Women's League and the treasurer of the Free State ANC.
Sarah Matawana "Olly" Mlamleli is a South African politician who served as the Mayor of the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality from August 2016 until August 2020. A member of the African National Congress,she served as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Cooperative Governance,Traditional Affairs and Human Settlements from February 2012 to August 2016. In 2020,Mlamleli was ousted as Mayor of Mangaung and arrested over a controversial asbestos contract stemming from her time with the MEC.
Skully Thembeni Nxangisa is a South African politician who served in the Free State Executive Council as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs from May 2019 until October 2021,when he became the MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development. He was removed from the executive council in March 2023
Pule Herbert Isak Makgoe was a South African politician and anti-apartheid activist. A member of the African National Congress,he was elected to the Free State Provincial Legislature in 1994. After holding multiple positions in the Executive Council of the Free State,he was appointed Member of the Executive Council for Education in May 2009,a position he would hold until his death in March 2023.
Kwekwe William Bulwane is a South African politician who has been a member of the Free State Provincial Legislature since May 2019. He had previously served as an MPL in April 2018. Bulwane had previously served in the Free State Executive Council as the Member of the Executive Council for Agriculture and Rural Development from May 2019 to October 2021 and as the MEC for Police,Roads and Transport from October 2021 until his demotion from the Executive Council in March 2023.

Malambule Samuel Mashinini is a South African politician and trade union leader who has been a member of the Free State Provincial Legislature since 2014. A member of the African National Congress,he was elected to the Free State Provincial Legislature in May 2014. He was then appointed as Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure. A year later,he became the MEC for Economic and Small Business Development,Tourism and Environmental Affairs. Mashinini was appointed MEC for Police,Roads &Transport in October 2016. He was dismissed in October 2021.
Seaparo Charles Sekoati,sometimes mispelled Seaparo Sekwati,is a South African politician who is currently serving in the Limpopo provincial government as Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Finance. She was sworn in as a Member of the Free State Provincial Legislature for the African National Congress in April 2018. Motshidisi Agnes Koloi,also spelled Motshidise,is a South African politician and educator who is currently serving as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Social Development in the Free State provincial government. Before that,she was MEC for Public Works and Human Settlements. She has served in the Free State Provincial Legislature as an ANC representative since May 2019. Prior to her election to the Provincial Legislature,Koloi had served as the executive mayor of the Moqhaka Local Municipality.
Motlagomang Grazy Qabathe,commonly known as Mamiki Qabathe,is a South African politician who served in the Executive Council of the Free State as Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Social Development from May 2019 until October 2023. Before that,she was Speaker of the Free State Provincial Legislature from 2015 to 2019. She is a member of the African National Congress (ANC).
