Manish Gupta is a film director and writer in the Indian film industry.

As a director, Manish has directed the movies One Friday Night (2023), 420 IPC (2021), Rahasya (2015), Hostel (2011), The Stoneman Murders (2009) and Darna Zaroori Hai (2006). [1] [2] [3]

As a writer, Manish has written the screenplay and dialogues for the movies Sarkar (2005) and Section 375 (2019). [4]

Career

Manish Gupta started his career as a screenwriter with Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Sarkar. [5] He received nominations for the screenplay and dialogues of Sarkar. [6]

Manish debuted as a director with Darna Zaroori Hai (2006) in which there were six different stories and a separate director for each story. Manish directed the main story titled ‘Grandma narrates stories to five children’. [7]

Manish's next film as director was The Stoneman Murders (2009) starring Kay Kay Menon and Arbaaz Khan, based on the Stoneman killings that shook Bombay in 1983. [8]

After that, Manish directed Hostel (2011) about students’ deaths due to ragging (hazing) inside college hostels. Manish was felicitated for making this socially relevant film by the then President of India, Ms. Pratibha Patil. [9] [10] [11]

Manish's next film as director was Rahasya (2015) based on the Aarushi Talwar murder case, starring Kay Kay Menon, Tisca Chopra and Ashish Vidyarthi. [12] [13] [14]

Manish's next film was the 2019 film Section 375, a courtroom drama about a fake rape case, which took Manish three years to research and script. For his script of Section 375, Manish was nominated for a Filmfare award under the Best Screenplay category at the 65th Filmfare Awards 2020. [15] [16] [17]

Manish's next film 420 IPC was a courtroom drama about an economics offence. The film starring Vinay Pathak, Ranvir Shorey, Gul Panag and Rohan Vinod Mehra released in 2021 on the OTT platform ZEE5. The film was featured in Forbes list of the five best film/series in 2021. [18]

Manish's latest release was One Friday Night starring Raveena Tandon. The film's released on the OTT platform JIO Cinema in 2023. [19] [20]

The Stoneman Murders is a 2009 Indian neo-noir crime thriller film based on the real life Stoneman serial killings that made headlines in the early 1980s in Bombay. The helpless victims of the mystery killer, who was never caught, were footpath dwellers in Bombay. They were stoned to death in their sleep. The movie weaves fiction around reality in an attempt to provide answers to the questions around the case. The Stoneman Murders was director Manish Gupta's first full-length feature film.

Rahasya (transl. Mystery) is a 2015 Indian murder mystery film which is directed by Manish Gupta. The film stars Kay Kay Menon, Tisca Chopra, Ashish Vidyarthi, Mita Vashisht and Ashwini Kalsekar. The film is inspired by the 2008 Noida double murder case, which was met with some criticism by Rajesh and Nupur Talwar. The film was released on 30 January 2015 to positive reviews.

She made her acting debut in the 1991 action film Patthar Ke Phool, which earned her the Filmfare Award for New Face of the Year. He is the founder of Siddhant Cinevision Limited and did debut as television producer with the Hindi Serial Parampara in 1993, which was telecasted on Zee TV and a popular serial among the viewers. The film premiered on 17 December 2021 on ZEE5.

Aranyak is a 2021 Indian Hindi-language Netflix crime thriller web series created by Charudutt Acharya and Rohan Sippy, directed by Vinay Waikul, and starring Raveena Tandon, Parambrata Chatterjee, Ashutosh Rana, Taneesha Joshi, Anna Ador, Zakir Hussain, and Meghna Malik.
